I ordered Doordash from this location the other night sometime between 8-9:30p and while it got to me pretty quickly, that was pretty much the only positive thing about my experience. I don't eat meat, and I ordered the wet burrito plate with the 'special instructions' (the spot where you would fill in any allergies or necessary modifications) saying 'vegetarian burrito please, no meat, add lettuce'. I got the food and it smelled really good, but I noticed there was an extra regular burrito in the bag. I figured it was a happy accident and I was just going to give the extra to my roommate. I started eating the wet burrito and the first thing I noticed was how bland the sauce was. It didn't even taste like sauce, it was really just red, cheesy moisture. The tortilla was fine, a standard flour tortilla, and honestly the most flavorful part of the meal. In fact, the burrito was so bland that I was a few bites in before I realized there was chicken in it, as the chicken had no flavor as well. Things started to click at this point. I went to the other burrito and unwrapped it slightly. Sure enough, it was a [dry] vegetarian burrito with extra lettuce. What I'm assuming happened is they made my order, then noticed the special instructions, and instead of redoing the whole thing, they just quickly threw together a second one. I say "threw together" because you could tell it was a very slap dash moment. The wrapper to the second burrito was wrapped INTO the burrito itself. Like I had to unfold the whole tortilla to get the wrapping paper out. And then THAT burrito was bland as well, which is crazy because I tasted the beans with my plate and they had flavor, but the beans in the burrito didn't (?). I'm just disappointed. A lot of the reviews said this place is fantastic, and this is my second time ordering from them and both times it's been me. I may have caught them on a bad night, but also I've noticed since moving to Portland, the standards for Mexican food are very very low, and I've struggled to find places that aren't ridiculously expensive while also being flavorful and authentic. The two stars are because I appreciated the thought of giving me the extra burrito, but still everything about the meal...
Read moreHoly freaking Jeebus!!!, this spot is just legit grade-A FIRE 🔥 🔥🔥 I was making my way home one night, via bicycle,..heading northbound on Vancouver Ave, and I was seriously running out of fuel and found myself losing steam quickly... Being that it was around 3:30am when I came upon javiers tacos, the lights from the signage and inside the restaurant shining out of the windows were a glorious and powerful beacon of hope and comfort!! Yeayyy!! immediately coaxing a grin to my face, my mouth began to salivate, and I knew what I needed to do... I parked my bike and trailer on the side of the building, and went Inside and ordered 3 of the "big tacos" with ground beef... My tacos were handed to me in less than five minutes, And I proceeded to take my order to the parking lot where I remounted my carbon fiber steed, and then proceeded to devour three tacos, and finish them all before I even got to the street to continue heading north. Those tacos not only saved my butt from running out of fuel and motivation to complete my twelve mile bike ride home, But they were also the most delicious, flavourful, tasty, and all-around just perfect tacos that I have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. Ever. Not hyperbole, but these are the best tacos i've ever had in any city, EVER. I can't emphasize enough how great this place is, and I highly recommend that anybody. Who hasn't a picture that is the establishment, needs to as soon as possible... Especially if you're in the area in the middle of the night.. because the place is open for 24 hours a day... Which we all know is super rare in the current age and in the post-covid world that we live in... Thanks of yours tacos!!! Keep on doing...
Read moreI came to this place because it was open 24 hours. I ordered food, asked the gentleman at the cash register if they had queso cheese dip. He responded yes and asked if I wanted yellow or white cheese. I responded blanco. I paid and waited. When he handed me the bag, there was a bowl of shredded cheese in the bag. I asked him again if they had cheese DIP and showed him a picture. He grabbed the bowl and gave it back to the kitchen. Brought the bowl back to me with scorched, hard, firm cheese that wasn't smooth and edible for dipping. I asked him again if they had cheese for 'DIPPING' and showed a picture again. He grabbed the bowl, went to the kitchen, poured shredded cheese in a bowl, threw it on the counter and said, 'you got it!' Walked off and wouldn't acknowledge that I was still standing there because I paid for something that I didn't receive and that the issue had not been resolved. Wouldn't it have been so much simpler and easier if he had just said they don't have it! I think so. Needless to say the food wasn't all that great either...edible at best. Of course it's not authentic, I didn't expect it to be. However, I did expect bette or at least tasty food. As of now, being open 24/7 is the only good thing that this place has going for themselves. I'll update if I decide to...
