Jojo comes up on a lot of PDX "Best of..." lists, and as a result, when I was looking to book a reservation and found no convenient time slots available, I figured the next best alternative would be to skip the BS and just hit up the food cart. Good choice.
Reasonably priced for a premium burger in Portland, I went with the Mr. Onion Burger, which lived up to the name in every way possible: an assortment of awesome Alliums assembled under a bun, and tied together with a tasty, tangy Alabama white mustard. Very much approved! I'm now even more intrigued to return and try the Spicy Cheeseburger, which would normally have been my #1 pick, but I wanted to try something different.
Of course, one can't eat at Jojo's without trying the Jojo's, right? And my visit was no exception: a small order of the Nashville Hots was a fantastic accompaniment, even if the red sauce and breading got absolutely everywhere! And even a small order is a sizeable portion, meaning I took half of it home with me, for later.
Jojo came with a lot of hype and expectations, but they knocked it out of the park, and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to anyone. And if you're like me, and you don't need any pretense to enjoy a classic burger at a reasonable price, don't bother reserving a table in NW; just head over to this cart...

Long story short, I was really excited for this place. It looked amazing on Instagram, and I’m a huge fan of chicken sandwich and jojos.
Well, the reality was extremely disappointing.
Things I got: mr onion chicken sandwich, jojos, and Brussel sprouts.
The chicken sandwich was mediocre overall. The chicken was well fried. Annnnd that’s it. The onion was poorly cooked. The seasoning wasn’t there. Not at all inspiring.
Jojos was alright. Literally could’ve gotten equal quality from Safeway for much cheaper price. The jojo sauce was good.
Brussel sprouts. Where do I even begin. It’s like they don’t know how to cook. The thing was burned to the ground. No texture whatsoever. Typical boring, balsamic vinegar based sauce. It was tough somehow. Zero flavor of Brussel sprouts. Like, how can you screw up this dish? It’s so simple. Did they just give up on vegetarian food because they prefer chicken?
At least they pay their employees well....
Read moreI’ve been meaning to check this cart out for a long time. I heard a lot about Jojo’s during the pandemic and how they gave away free meals. I have a lot of friends in the restaurant industry who got laid off during the pandemic and really appreciated the free meals handed out. Finally today I was able to try it. Fried chicken sandwich one of the best in town! For real! Big piece of chicken just enough sauce, coleslaw, lots of pickles. I added cheese in mine but it would of been good either way. Next time I’m adding bacon for sure. The bun was perfect size and smashed into the sandwich like it should while eating it. When eating it all the bites had all the layers it should with out falling apart or getting soggy. Bravo! I got Jojo’s on the side and they were also good a little salty for my taste. To top it off the staff was super friendly and they were super busy but maintained their composure. One staff member was out of the cart passing out the bags for to go food! Super awesome!...
