I've been going to Kenton Station Pub for a couple years and just last night met the owner that turns out is an idiot. The Staff that work at Kenton Station are super friendly, very nice and go above and beyond to serve you. They do tend to forget quite a bit but their niceness prevails. Last night 12/20/17, I walked up to order a drink at the bar and waited a few minutes for a bartender. Without knowing the man that came up to serve at the bar was the owner. It was the first time I ever saw him there at this place. Instead of asking me what I wanted the owner asked the person standing behind me what drink he and his friend wanted. I was confused why he would not ask me first. I was about to say something when a lady I have never seen before came up to the bar and asked me if I've been helped. I ordered a Margarita and she looked confused. I asked her if she knew how to make the drink and she said another bartender will make it for me. I waited a few more minutes and the owner just stood there looking at me. The television was kind of louder than normal. I then decided to leave instead and asked them to cancel my drink. The lady bartender asked what? I said again bit louder to cancel my drink order and left. The next day 12/21/17 I decided to stop by again after work and walked up to order a drink. The owner was standing outside the bar and myself still did not know he was the owner. The owner then said, "The Margarita guy". I asked him why he called me that and he proceeded to tell me he owns the establishment and that I yelled at his wife last night. I became confused and told him I did not yell at all. The owner continued insisting I did yell at his wife because he was standing behind the bar and heard me yell at his wife. I only asked if she knew how to make the drink and it was obvious she did not. I then asked him why he did not serve me first and went straight to the guy behind me. He told me I was already being helped. I told him no I was not. The owner again said you yelled at my wife. It was obvious at this time the owner is a total idiot and his wife does not know how to make drinks yet bartends. I raised my hands simply giving up arguing with an idiot and told him goodbye. Again, the Staff are great people but the owner is...
Read moreIt is rare that I write a review. My experience somewhere has to be extremely great or extremely horrible. This review is about an extremely shocking and not a good experience I had with a couple friends at The Kenton Station restaurant and Pub. This last Saturday on 7/20 the town of Kenton was having a neighborhood wine walk for the purpose of getting to know the town. You get you a glass to carry with you so you can sample wines at all the different restaurants and stores. After going to two stops on the walk I was telling my friends we should also check Kenton Station pub even though it wasn't on the list to see if we liked it. My friend's glasses were empty besides one glass had a sip left in it. As we walked in my friend sipped the drink so the glass was empty. We walked into the pub, I ordered myself a drink and a man came up behind the bartender and told my friends they cannot bring outside drinks in. We explained they were empty and we were on the Kenton wine walk. He then said in an aggressive tone “I saw her sip the wine as she walked in” I explained it wasn't intentional, as all the restaurants and stores are allowing people to come in with the wine glasses. He then started preaching to us in a very aggressive tone the Portland liquor laws. I said “sir it was an honest mistake, we are here to order a drink and check out your pub” He then yelled “I don't care, I am not serving you guys, get out of the bar” I was shocked. I couldn't have been more calm in trying to explain to this man the situation. I then asked him his name, he said Ben. I was a bartender in my 20’s in no way would I ever speak to customers the way he spoke to us and honestly if he “By law” had to ask us to leave there was a much better way to handle that situation. I will not be returning or supporting the Kenton station pub and that is disappointing because I just moved into the neighborhood. I will make sure to let my friends and family know not to go there. Not only did they lose a returning customer they will also lose future customers due to Ben and how extremely verbally...
Read moreI’ve been rolling through Kenton for almost 25 years and it never even occurred to me to stop and eat here. For all of the history and great stonework it’s like the place is wrapped in an invisibility cloak.
Well it popped up on my phone as a place for sustenance and I decided to rip away that invisible curtain and give the place a try. I’ve been craving burgers recently and The Kenton Station seemed promising. I was wondering to myself why I had never stopped there before and I realized it has the local drinking hole kind of look. The kind of place that might be a little run down and full of folks sitting around who all know everyone else. It didn’t look all that welcoming to me. I kind of hate ordering at the bar at restaurants. I resist sauntering up to a bar unless I’m wearing my shiny pearl handled six guns, my old beat up cowboy boots, and a tattered and tortured cowboy hat that has seen some stuff.
But let us address the meal itself, all can be forgiven if the burger fills my withered old heart, if it lifts me like a glorious sunrise rising above the trees.
Unfortunately it did not. The onion rings were ok, they had an odd taste that might be old oil or maybe the rings themselves might have come unaltered from a supply store. It was not a bad taste, but not great either.
The bacon burger tasted alright, but was chewy and a bit dry. Nothing to write home about unless you are writing to your mother to complain about the food. To be honest, it was one of the worst burgers I’ve had in a while.
Kenton itself is such an interesting little village. It looks like it wants to be better, but got caught on an old snag on the way up. And like the Kenton Station, it’s not living up to its...
