M Bar - Mandalay Bar — Restaurant in Portland

Perfect taste of European living right in the heart of the Alphabet District. This hole-in-the-wall is easy to miss, but you shouldn't. Candlelit, cozy, great selection of wines, a few choice beers on tap, and two separate happy hours!!

You have to be okay with being close to other people here.... And if you can muster that strength, you'll probably make a friend or two. This is a popular spot for folks in the industry with it's late hours (and late night happy hour), as well as locals with dogs (dogs are welcome in the bar as well as on the patio!) The bartenders are knowledgeable, winethusiastic and friendly, which helps to warm this gem of a nook into the perfect date spot.

Not fair that nearly all the associated positive reviews are from the old M Bar. This is completely different establishment and if you go there expecting the old place, you'll be seriously disappointed. What was once an incredibly romantic, convivial space lit by just candlelight, amazing wines by the glass and an unparalleled atmosphere has turned into the opposite, effectively a waiting room for the restaurant next door. Unfair they are able to continue to call it by the same name and positive associations with that brand but don't deliver on a product that is even...

This may technically be a bar (with possibly the best sangria I've ever had) but it's attached to an amazing Burmese restaurant and the food is fantastic! We had the sampler appetizer platter, definitely recommend! Also the beef curry and Shan noodles, fantastic! The atmosphere is also great! And a sweet twist we were having dinner before seeing It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley up the street from Cinema 21 and our server had already seen and RAVED about it. The film and food were excellent! I feel Jeff would've approved! Perfect night...
