I recently visited Newscapes Brewing with high expectations, but unfortunately, my experience fell significantly short of what I had hoped for. From the moment I arrived, several issues marred my visit.
First and foremost, the ambiance of the brewery was disappointing. The space felt cramped and lacked the professionalism of a well-established brewery. It gave the impression that the owner was merely running a side business to make an extra dollar. Additionally, while many of the breweries I visited that day were bustling with customers, Newscapes Brewing was nearly empty, which was quite telling.
On a positive note, the owner was very nice and friendly, which was a small consolation.
As for the beer, the quality was underwhelming. I sampled several varieties, hoping to find something that stood out, but each one lacked the distinct flavors and craftsmanship that I expect from a good brewery. The IPA tasted flat, and the other beers had an unpleasant aftertaste. It was evident that the brews lacked the care and precision required to make great beer. Frankly, the beer tasted like it was made from a Mr. Beer starter kit, making it hard to believe the 5-star reviews this place has received. I can't help but wonder if those reviews are paid or friends are writing positive reviews to help the business.
In conclusion, my visit to Newscapes Brewing was a disappointment. Despite the owner's friendliness, the lackluster ambiance and subpar beer left me with no desire to return. I hope the brewery takes these concerns seriously and makes the necessary...
Read moreMy gf and I were in Portland visiting some family recently, as we often do. We decided to switch up our usual routine and give newscapes a try — i’m glad we did. Jeff is a cool dude. He’s a long time Portland resident that knows a lot about the city. Great host/bartender/musician.. the list goes on. After chatting with him for a while I really got the feeling that he’s one of the good guys. I ended up calling my brother & his gf to come join us since they live nearby and had never been. It’s a newish location (long story) so there are only a few small batch beers on tap — I tried them all and they were all delicious. The Thai Pepper pizza was also a hit, as were the cookies & bread sticks. On the outside the place is unsuspecting, as it appears to be a house and not a brewery/restaurant. The inside bar is small but the good vibes, food & drink easily makes up for it. There are some picnic tables out front, to help accommodate more people. This place has a real “built from the ground up” vibe to it, in the best way possible. Newscapes is definitely on our list of things to do now when we’re in Portland. Hoping to get lucky and catch a little reggae show next time we pop in. Stop by and show some love to this little hidden gem. Say hi to Jeff for...
Read moreThis was our last beer stop on a long weekend trip of eating and drinking our way across Portland. It wasn't on our original itinerary, but after having some free time and reading the reviews we gave it a shot. Glad we did. I would have regretted missing it. Jeff makes, hands down, some of the BEST beer I've had in a long time. He had 3 on tap that he brews in small batches at his mom's place
