We came for brunch about a week ago. We sat outside and received menus. Everything was going okay. Waitress seemed a bit grumpy but nothing too bad. When we ordered, I had a few questions about the menu. I made a modification and ordered a salad and a side of fruit. I asked the waitress about dressings for the salad and she had no clue. My boyfriend ordered the brioche French toast (which btw is crazy overpriced and is listed as cheaper online). He requested strawberries on top. The food came in a reasonable time, however, I never received my side of fruit. The whipped butter wasn’t on the plate, despite being advertised on the menu. The strawberries were not on the dish, either. The French toast was really underwhelming. My boyfriend asked the waitress about the whipped butter to which she replied, “oh, you want the butter?” As if the butter wasn’t included with the dish on the menu, even though it explicitly lists it. She stormed off from our table and aggressively placed the butter. Still, never got the fruit. The waitress dropped off the check. When she came back to retrieve it, my boyfriend asked for another minute with the check as we were still getting out the cash. The waitress dramatically ROLLED HER EYES at him. Once again, she stormed off. According to the receipt, our waitresses name was Julianna. We left our table, after paying, and started walking towards our car. I glanced back at her as she was picking up the receipt. She looked directly at me with this spiteful look in her eyes and made another eye roll gesture. I will add that we were not charged for the side of fruit, thankfully. Crazy bad experience that I wish we never had. Besides all this, look at what you get for your money. Also, much of the salad leaves were browning. See the photo of the butter they served us. The photo of the butter was totally untouched by us.

Where to start. Went to Front Room after Googling the best pancakes in Maine. Front Room made the list for their silver dollar pancakes. Parking was easy on the street when they opened. There was also no wait as we were waiting out front when they unlocked the door at 9. Getting our drinks and the ordering process was easy. My daughter got the pancakes and I tried the French toast special, which I overheard the hostess raving about. Our food took about 30 minutes to make it to the table - others that ordered after us got theirs first, but whatever. My French toast (if you can call it that) and my daughters pancakes were both burnt. I also ordered a side of bacon, which was also a bit beyond overcooked. The French toast was more like stale slabs of Texas toast or whatever bread they used. As best as I could tell they weren't dipped in anything before cooking. I had to let the blueberry’s and lemon topping soak into the bread to make it soft enough to get past staleness and the burnt flavor. The person at the table next to me had the regular French toast off the menu and it looked like regular French toast and it looked good. The pancakes were not the silver dollar pancakes from all the reviews (which upon second reading are several years old). Two more notes: the bathroom is a mess with soap in a not labeled cooking squeeze bottle and the paper towel holder nearly falling off the wall. For all that, we paid over $50. It was like $8 for three burned pieces of bacon and my three slabs of stale bread was $18. There are way too many better places in and around Portland to get breakfast. Go to one of them instead for better, cheaper, and faster food.

I was very disappointed in the food. I got the brunch special which was a medley of fall vegetables with andouille sausage and a couple poached eggs on top. The vegetables had thyme twigs still in it and squash stem pieces that almost cracked my teeth. The eggs were so overcooked that they had zero runniness to the yolk. I included pictures as proof and I set aside the discarded stems in the upper left corner of the photo. The hollandaise sauce was the color and taste of thousand island dressing which was very off putting. If they are going to charge $4 for a 2oz side of hollindaise, the least they could do was make it taste good. They charged an extra $2 for toast and the special that almost sent me to the dentist was $19! The service and atmosphere were awesome. I just wish the food could have matched.

Stayed in Portland for the weekend. This was one of 2 very disappointing experiences with similar themes. Upon arriving we were seated quickly in a very busy and loud dining room. It seemed to be a little crowded with tables as to maximize opportunity for business but at the cost of the ‘atmosphere’ which was non-existent. It was a loud and crowded dining room where you feel like you are sitting on top of the people next to you. Our wait staff was less than attentive as we had to ask for a refill in coffee that was forgotten about and those of us with iced coffee weren’t even offered a refill. Haha. Our order was not correct in a few different places (i.e. someone asked for sausage and got bacon) and we just received a blank and confused stare from the waitress and a quiet “I’m sorry”. She offered to get the sausage but we knew it would take too long by the time it made it back to our table. When we received our meal, we seemed to put her out when we asked for jam/peanut butter for our toast. She wasn’t even listening and didn’t bring anything for one of us and because she was so inattentive to us, we couldn’t sacrifice anymore time out of our day to wait another 20 mins for jam. The food was mediocre and the establishment is trying to give it’s patrons what appears to be a “specialized” breakfast/brunch menu. It falls very flat and there is nothing special about it. An omelet doesn’t come with home fries and your toast costs extra as well. The main courses were overcooked and the makings in the omelet were burned and charred. Most things seemed to be an add-on. Another guest with our party asked for just a basic breakfast sandwich and he was told no and that he could order the basic breakfast meal and “assemble” it on his own. In order to pay our bill within a reasonable amount of time so that we could continue on our day, we flagged her down and handed our cards and then she forgot one card when she returned with the bill, causing us yet again to have to wait for our card by flagging her down. She was not someone that understands what urgency means. Breakfast for 4 people was over $85 for not much food that wasn’t correct, no attention to detail by staff and no efforts to correct errors or make us whole as patrons. The Front “Assembly” Room is a hard pass from now on. Far better places to try....

Was not as impressed as I normally am when attending. My guest and I were outside and debating to wait inside or outside for dinner service but when they brought out the dinner special sign I opted to go in. As we had arrived 5 minutes before 5pm and did not want to sit at the bar and my guest and I gladly stated we would wait to sit at the dining area, for we were greeted by the bar staff and hostess. The hostess took our name and we waited... 15 minutes later we were asked by another staff if we had reservations and I replied no, but our name was on the list. Mind you there were only patrons at the bar and no body else waiting to sit down so you can get why I was confused. We were seated promptly afterwards and the hostess was able to inform us of the meal choices and specials. I choose a Pumpkin head beer that was on tap and was the special of the day, however I was only able to consume one since the keg was empty at 530pm for a happy hour special that ran from 4-6. My guest enjoyed her wine, which was $4 per glass and they had a great selection. We were able to enjoy a few glasses, however once the tables were starting to fill up, we were starting to get neglected. Granted, we were a small tab table, our bill was only $40 in drinks, I understand that you want to attend to the other patrons. The frustrating part for myself was that two tables beside us had been turned over, the meal served and new consumer appeared, but overall only less than half the tables were full in the restaurant. We had waited close to 15 minutes before we were able to get our check and close our tab and off the way we went to another restaurant. Overall, not as great as I remember this place being. Customer service was touch and go, some staff were friendly and helpful and some not so much, but pointed us in the right direction. The restaurant was carrying food and bread in through the front door for the kitchen moments before 5pm, which is opening time to seat. I personally did not like that, but it is not my restaurant or operation. The bar staff is friendly and the people who were at the bar seemed to enjoy themselves. I may go back and try to relive the nostalgia of the restaurant I remember...
