Caffe Kilim — Restaurant in Portsmouth

This nice little spot is a modern meets traditional kind of turkish cafe, it's what you might expect to find in a hippy neighbourhood or Istanbul, turkish modern and traditional music plays, while young servers fix you a cup of american, espresso, or turkish coffee in a friendly manner.

The place is reasonably priced, it has a little shop area to be some turkish produce or T-shirts and rugs, which are a bit pricy but they are specially imported.

The true test for me was the turkish coffee, which was good, the best turkish coffee I've had in Portsmouth, they also have decent Baklava even though it's not the most fresh (that's because they import it from Turkey and don't make it here).

My husband bought our daughter one of their GF vegan brownies. I went back in to ask if the brownies contained any kind of nut, almond flour, etc since she’s allergic to nuts. There were 2 baristas working. They both took the allergy very seriously and were so nice! They both searched for the ingredient list, read through it thoroughly- no nuts were listed. One said she wanted to be extra sure and call the baker directly and ask her since she had her #. She confirmed- no nuts! I felt they went above and beyond and out of their way to be sure our daughter was safe! One of them even said, “ We should know this info anyway so I’m glad we called!” I wanted to be sure I let the management know how impressed I was w their customer service!! Absolutely lovely and unique atmosphere, a coffee shop (with honestly the best dirty vanilla chai & lavender latte I’ve ever had) They carry a variety of alternative milks for the vegan folks and a few select premade food items for on the go.

Indoor and outdoor seating available along with a few outlets to work if needed. And open till 4-5 most days which is great.

Authentic items from Turkey, filled with culture and beautiful items such as jewelry, bags, rugs, etc. I also found Rose Jam... which I’ve been on the hunt for years 😍 It’s a great place to pass through. The staff were kind and knew how to sign thank you! 🤟🏼
