Mojo's West End Tavern — Restaurant in Portsmouth

Mojo’s was a true disappointment on all levels. It was our first time at this establishment. I googled for BBQ when we were in the area. Upon entering the floors were very greasy. Nothing like that feeling of muck with each step on the way to our table. The table? Way too small to fit 4 adults and a child, especially when they serve your Q on those cookie sheet trays. My blueberry fizzle failed to taste like anything so I sent it back. They said the bartender had a taste and determined the lemonade syrup was low. They brought me another and it tasted the same. Did I ask for another? Nah I didn’t believe that it was worth it. Besides the hubby hates that I am particular (when I send anything back). But I recognize when something isn’t right or could be better. On to app….. we ordered the deviled eggs. Just the traditional eggs. The whites were so firm they could’ve been described as stiff. Not a bad flavor though. 3/4 adults ordered BBQ. Brisket- texture of ham and no smoked flavor, no flavor period. Pulled pork- no smoked flavor, no flavor period. Ribs- burnt and no flavor. Went with friends on a Friday night at about 5:30. We sat in the room to the left of the bar-we were told to sit wherever by the server so she definitely knew we were there. About 10 minutes in, I noticed another table had to go get her to place their order. She did that and turned to us saying she would be right back. She never returned. It's now 20 minutes and finally a server came over to us. We ordered drinks and a couple apps. Now waiting another 20 min. No drinks. No apps. We left. Went to Gibbs Garage where we had excellent service and always do. I understand being understaffed. But there was no urgency in anything the staff was doing. Go back to your old recipe for gumbies!!! I have always LOVED the food. I came in about 1.5-2 years ago and got a salad and gumbies, they were just as I remembered. Then I went in today and ordered take out which I waited an hour for (that's not the issue). I live in Maine now but was in the area and CRAVING the gumbies. I am so disappointed. I drove an hour back home only to open the box and see they aren't as they used to be. They used to be SO delicious. They used to be strips of chicken that was cooked PERFECTLY with just the right amount of crunch and the chicken was NEVER dry. These today were dry, so dry. They are no longer strips but more like nuggets (maybe that's why they are dry?), and the flavor wasn't even that great. I spent $70 on 1.5 lbs of them, Mac n cheese and pot stickers.
