“Should we get something to eat before we go home?” my lovely girlfriend asked. We had been away for three days on an adventure to Idaho. Most of the trip had been fantastic, but an ugly episode at the McDonald’s drive through that morning and some car trouble had put a stain on the day. El Huarache offered both good food and margaritas to set things right. The Poulsbo place is small, so we were packed in with three or four other tables. In these days of Covid, that made us nervous. We put on our masks and took the risk. Our table was in a booth giving us a small amount of isolation from the other guests. The staff also wore masks covering their mouths and noses, so maybe we will be OK. We were seated and given a basket of chips and a bowl of salsa. A sign on the wall told us that they only give one basket of chips per party due to food shortages. Strange times we live in, eh? The lunch menu has all the usual Mexican food choices. I ordered the Espresso Burrito and my girlfriend ordered the tamale. We both got small margaritas without salt. Our drinks came to the table right away. I was glad we got the small size. There was enough tequila in them to take the edge off. The food came up while we were enjoying our cocktails and reliving some of the fun moments from our trip. Both plates were neatly presented with fresh looking items. The portions were generous without being ridiculous. We dug in. I would have liked a bit more spice in mine and my girlfriend could have used more salt. Neither hot sauce or salt was available on the table. Those details aside, the food was good. The ingredients were fresh and well prepared. The waiter knows his job. I watched him work the room, showing up when people needed something and staying away when they didn’t. He was very polite with an old man who spoke very bad Spanish and had a hard time making up his mind. I would have liked to report on how the food held up as leftovers, but after our long trip, we were hungry, so we ate everything on our plates. The check came with a reasonable number on it. I paid it and we headed home with...
Read moreThe food is a little on the pricier side but it's absolutely delicious. The service is quick and friendly, I like it pretty bare minimum, just offer my drink to be refilled and the bill and you're good. You get complimentary chips beans and salsa when you sit down and it's only a dollar for a refill which feels like what an appetizer should be.
My only complaint is the seating is pretty cramped and the seats themselves aren't very comfortable when it comes to the booths but that doesn't really change my opinion. Could be worse :)
I've been here a bunch of times now, it's some of the best Mexican food you can get in Kitsap, always hot, and cooked...
Read moreI ordered food tonight and some of the items on the menu is not available at the Poulsbo location. When I called to let the restaurant know that half my order was missing and tried to inquire what happened so I can figure out how to fix it and get the remainder of my order instead the individual I was speaking with hung up on me. When I called back I asked why hung the phone up, they did not have an explanation. Instead of problem-solving I am out $40 after an $80 order and they are not picking up to my phone calls. The food is great but the customer service was...
