We were repeat customers of this bakery who will never return going forward after a terrible experience. We had enjoyed the brunch and pastries a handful of times but on our most recent visit we made the mistake of getting the tiramisu cake. It was inedible because of a “custard” that ran out like raw batter as soon as we removed the plastic film around the cake. After calling the bakery to let them know, the owner/manager proceeded to argue with us that it was supposed to be like that. She repeatedly switched between claiming it was that way because of mascarpone or custard in the recipe - as if we didn’t know that those two are entirely different things, both of which do not have the consistency of a liquid when prepared properly. She then claimed it was because it was hot outside and that our commute of 15 minutes from the bakery back home must have been the problem - except the car was air conditioned and we had then put the tiramisu in the fridge for 3 hours to chill after getting home. Not to mention, is one reasonably expected to consume a full size cake on the spot in a bakery? The bottom line was that this cake was unacceptable but what really put it over the edge for us was the inexplicably bad customer service from the owner/manager.
Finally a note on the ambience, we had noticed that occasionally the bakery strongly smelled of sewage which is just...
Read moreI have eaten a LOT of croissants and consider myself very discerning and a purist. It's not about the fillings, it's about the pastry. And Bonne Journee's pastry is excellent. Just really excellent. I've not sampled the varieties they have other than the croissants and cornets (which are not cornet shaped, but the pastry and cream are excellent). But i do have a favorite that I must recommend because i want you to like it so they keep it on the menu. They press down a croissant adding a light sugar sprinkle that caramelizes to a most delicious flat, roadkill-like croissant that is so perfectly crunchy, lightly sweet and divine. Why take the air out of a croissant? Well now you have your answer. I now crave that flat roadkill-like croissant. Maybe...
Read moreNew bakery Belle Journee is a great place to grab a croissant or dessert while staying at The Graduate, as it’s right across the street. Our group had macarons, a tiramisu, croissants, and espresso. All were very good and extremely fresh, a solid 4/5.
I would say the desserts lacked some authenticity; for instance, the tiramisu did not taste at all like the lady fingers were soaked in espresso. With that being said, it was unique in its own way and very tasty.
Staff was extremely courtesy and helpful. Store is new and clean; I think it is pretty much take out only, as I didn’t see tables. Prices are average for a high end bakery; a small dessert for two is around $15. Macarons...
