This place has a lot of potential to be really great but the unprofessional staff as so many have stated in their reviews really ruins it for this restaurant. The restaurant is connected to the Nassau Inn which I think helps the restaurant with business despite there being many other restaurant/bars around. I wanted to like this place because there is a lot of charm and history in the restaurant. The location is also nice being in Palmer Square surrounded by the park and many other restaurants, cafes, and specialty stores.
My group of nine decided to meet at 2pm with no reservations. One person arrived early and actually got us 2 tables outside on their patio. When I arrived there was only one other table occupied and many tables available. During our entirety of our stay there was only 2 other small tables occupied. I state this because our one table had an umbrella and the other did not. Which we asked if we can put the tables together and for an umbrella. One waiter said we couldn't put the tables together because of their policy and would have to get the manager's approval. We also couldn't have an umbrella because there was no base for the umbrella. Keep in mind there were only 2 other small tables occupied and about 3-4 umbrellas not being used. We did get permission for our tables to be moved together which was done without the help of any staff.
There was another part of our dining experience that wasn't so great. It was very sunny and hot out and we asked for a refill on one of pitchers of water to which our waiter responded looking at our other less than half filled pitcher "there's one right there." He did end up bringing a new pitcher of water while the one he pointed out was now empty.
This place is in a prime location with a beautiful patio. I was expecting for a Sunday afternoon, to see their patio booked and busy. The amount of empty tables of the patio really said a lot. In short charming place with unfortunately unprofessional service.
I recommend going to one of the other surrounding restaurants. Mediterra is amazing for lunch and dinner with their cute patio. Maman is great for...
Read moreWe visited Princeton this past Saturday for an event, and just happened into the Yankee Doodle for a late afternoon meal. We were very happy to have found a place with outdoor seating that wasn't crowded, and that had offerings for the vegetarians in our party. Fabio was our extremely pleasant waiter, who gave us the time we requested to make our selections. Two veggie burgers, a pulled pork sandwich, and a Turkey & Applewood bacon panini later, we were content. My Turkey & bacon panini was fine (not the BEST sandwich I've ever had, but fine) but what WAS special was the salad that that came with it. Very yummy! Apparently, they make therir own dressings. My youngest daughter's Pulled Pork must have been delicious, because she devoured it (although the roll it was on fell apart right away). The two veggie burgers received 'just acceptable' ratings (not very well seasoned), but we all agreed the fries were great. All in all, not the VERY best food (and definitely pricier than some of us are used to), but there were some high notes...including a nice ambiance and a very...
Read moreWe visited the tap room this afternoon as a party of 5. We were seated quickly at 4:45 pm. We waited 10 minutes for our waiter. Our greeting was a bit cold. He took our drink order and 2 appetizers. 20 minutes later, the chicken wings and soup came out. No drinks. 10 minutes later the drinks arrived. The martinis were dripping down the glass. No drink napkins or coasters were given so the sticky glasses puddled on the table. Our main course was 2 burgers (both ordered medium, but came out well done). The chicken and dumplings were supposed to be chicken thighs in gravy with carrots, celery, onion and dumplings in a chicken gravy. What we got was a bowl of brownish gravy with 6 small balls of dough. NO CHICKEN, NO VEGETABLES! For $28!!!! Needless to say, we sent it back and asked for it to be removed from the menu. Nachos were also terrible. A stack of chips with a little “cheese sauce” and a pile of lettuce on top. There are so many restaurants in the area. ...
