Tried Fish City Grill for our very first time tonight and was really impressed with the atmosphere and our waiter! I’ll have to admit that the hostess didn’t have a clue what she was doing. We clearly had a 4 month old baby, and she kept asking if we wanted a booster seat when she should’ve offered a sling for the car seat instead. But she had no idea what the difference was. She even brought the baby a kids menu to color. She seemed so confused about why we didn’t need one lol. We originally requested a booth because it’s easier to just slide the car seat into one but she automatically shut that idea down and tried sitting us at a table until my husband politely asked again if we could just get a booth. Her reaction to us requesting a booth was uncalled for and honestly made us feel like walking out to someone who WANTED to accommodate us. After our interaction with her, we really weren’t sure how the rest of the visit would go. It truly rubbed me the wrong way. To our surprise, our waiter made up for her lack of customer service. I believe he said his name was Kareem (sp?) and he was fantastic! He made great recommendations on both cocktails and food, and had answers to every question we had. He was very friendly and provided the type of service we hoped for on a rare night out. If we go back I hope he’s there! Now to the cocktails and food… I had a Hurricane (left drink) and it was really good!! It was made with the right amount of everything. And the right amount of alcohol is important to me because some places like to skimp on the alcohol. This place didn’t. It was spot on. My husband had the Paloma (right drink) and it was good but just didn’t compare to my Hurricane. I had the Shrimp and Crab Stuffed Flounder served over a bed of Lemon Basil Rice and it was CHEFS KISS. AMAZING FLAVOR. I haven’t stopped thinking about the flavors since I left. I think I’ll ask them to switch the veggies for mashed potatoes next time. My husband had the Shrimp & Chicken Penne Alfredo. Unfortunately, they forgot the chicken and it had to be remade so I didnt grab a picture of the remade one. But this pasta was just ok. The shrimp tasted as if it was previously frozen and not fresh. Therefore, causing an overpowering bad after taste. I don’t think we will ever order again. It’s really hard to mess up pasta and we couldn’t believe they forgot the chicken as that’s one of the most important parts. But they did take care of us and were very apologetic. We can’t wait to go back and try something new! That Lobster and Shrimp Grilled Cheese keeps...
Read moreThis was a personal visit with family. Beyond the fishy smell that hits you as you enter the establishment, the service was phenomenal and couldn’t be happier with it. Shelby is just awesome!! More staff around town should be more like her when it comes to being attentive and knowing exactly how to handle any situation. She was on top of everything except their staff overlooked one of the appetizers but Shelby made it right. Being our first time in the restaurant, one of their managers brought these beautifully presented and tasty fried oysters on a crispy tortilla with some tasting sauces and pico. Great idea to showcase their restaurant and sauce preparations. The family just loved them. We were blown away with the appetizers we had ordered (Calamari and Spicy Honey Shrimp) and couldn’t wait for the entrees. Unfortunately, the kids weren’t happy with the taste of their fish and chips that looked like oversized corn dogs. But, Shelby made it right without a fuss. As I said, she was just awesome!! My wife’s rainbow trout was fine but slightly overcooked and dry and my stuffed flounder with shrimp and crab could definitely use more sauce, seasoning, and less soggy vegetables. I would like to let the owners know that we will give the restaurant another shot only because Shelby took really good care of us. Also, I highly recommend improving their dishes, which seem to change almost daily. Perhaps that is what the issue is. Daily menu changes don’t allow for refining dish preparation. Even the best of the best Michelin restaurants very rarely change entire menus. They will always have signature dishes with slight variations based on market availability of some ingredients. If there isn’t room for improvement, then the taste buds they may be catering to need...
Read moreThis was our first time in to Fish City Grill. We were seated on the patio where the host assured us that it was warm with the heaters. It might have been warm if the role up barrier was all the way to the floor but it stopped about a foot and a half from floor. We asked the waitress "Kylie" about that and she tried to lower it but it would not go all the way down leaving cold air coming in on our legs. The seats were also damp from rain. She did not even ask if we would prefer to move to another table when one came available. We ordered and a couple who were seated at another table after us were able to order and have their food half eaten before we got food delivered to us. We ordered roasted jalapeño soup and gumbo. The roasted jalapeño soup was excellent and the gumbo was better than most places around here. We ordered fish and chips and lobster and shrimp grilled cheese. The fish seemed to have set out waiting for delivery to the table therefore it was not crisp and not as warm as I expected. The sandwich my wife ordered was good. We saw our waitress a total of 3 times at the table once to order once to fill tea and once to take payment. Another waitress filled our tea once and brought us the check.we had to ask for the check after waiting twenty minutes to ask for the check after we were finished eating. We will be trying this restaurant again and hopefully we will have a more attentive waitstaff helping us. Next time we will not be seated on the patio unless the weather is better. ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
We finally.got to go back and try again and all I can say is that this visit was one of the best experiences we have had eating out. The food was spot on and the service by Mitch was excellent. We will be visiting...
