Being a Michigander, I absolutely love a good Detroit style pizza and it's still my favorite style of pizza, and I have lived everywhere in between to include Chicago, which makes a great deep dish, but it's completely different that Detroit style.
I found a great D-Town style pizza when we moved here but it was a good 45 minute or so drive each way. It was well worth it for the Eliza, but I was excited to see Killa Pie opening up in my town. I knew they had to raise the bar high as Motor City Pizza in Lewisville has been my go to pizza place.
The family and I arrived early on a Friday evening to beat the rush and dine in. The facility is nice as the building is brand new. When we walked up we were greeted and had the door opened for us by staff which was a nice gesture.
Entering I heard some great Motown music (also all Michigan based music which was great; Madonna, Greta Van Fleet, etc). There was an abundance of staff on hand getting ready for what looked to be a busy evening which I liked to see. The staff members were all very nice and we were checked on several times while dining. Our glasses never made it to being half full (or half empty) which was excellent.
My teenage son isn't a big Detroit style pizza fan and we were happy to hear that he could order a slimmer style pizza. Like Detroit style but about half the thickness and he loved it. He had the Slender Submarine pizza.
My wife ordered the regular Original Detroit style Submarine 4 square while o ordered the original style The Pioneer which was a pepperoni "Cup" style where amazing pepperonis reach for the sky as they are baked. We shared and loved what we were eating. We were also very happy to dine that the crust was very airy and not a typical heavy crust that bogs you down. We felt great after eating and the serving sizes were perfect.
They have excellent adult cocktails, pop (or Soda as you call it down south), and other healthier options for drinks.
Conclusion: If you've read this far, I commend you. Do I recommend the place, absolutely. A nice sports bar atmosphere (NFL games playing on several TV's throughout the establishment). Bring the family, enjoy the atmosphere and the food and have a good time. We will be back often.
My one immediate recommendation is the cellular service in that part of town is not great. Please make a guest Wi-Fi network to eliminate the issue.
UPDATE: We returned again, 2nd visit in 8 days and again had an amazing time. We even got to meet the owner which was great (and he responded to this review). Wi-Fi is in the works for customers which is fantastic! My wife tried the Ugly Duckling salad and liked it so much she got another one to bring home. We will make weekly visits and plan on this being our new hangout. There is also a really nice bar for hanging with friends and watching sporting events...
Read moreVery disappointed in this restaurant. Let me start by saying I use to come here WEEKLY. It's been over a month since I last ate here because of a previous experience I had with the manager and bartender. The food was great, drinks were awesome, but this place is going downhill. I sat at the bar and the first thing the boy said was "Oh you just had to wear Detroit gear?" Then, did nothing but talk down about the other employees, saying "thanks to Biden, we can't get good workers and had to stop serving brunch". Sorry, but get better at hiring. The next comment came from the unprofessional manager, "he will order the same basic drink" right in front of me... Needless to say, it wasn't a great experience so I quit coming back. We had some friends from Detroit visiting and decided to give it another try. The manager was still unprofessional, he sits at a table with his laptop and goes around gossiping with the employees acting like it's high school making jokes. The restaurant was filled with smoke, the pizza had NO flavor, and the staff wasn't on point. This is a BUSINESS. If you want to compare yourself to Buddy's pizza in Michigan, you have a long way to go. The pizza bread is precooked, they throw toppings on top, and put it back in the oven. I wonder why we got sick the next day. Prices also don't add up between a small and large. I've given up on this restaurant and won't be recommending any of my Michigan friends here. Hope this review find you well and you find more...
Read moreIt was an okay experience to round it up. We ordered cauliflower crust pizza, TX corn and chicken sandwich.
We had to wait for the server to get back to us three times before finally on the fourth attempt we were able to place the order. If customers have questions, please train your staff to answer those questions so customers can make informed decisions. He was more concerned about the other customers that had alcohol being served than attending to our food/menu related questions.
Food came to us within twelve minutes which was amazing speed considering it was busy.
TX corn was good and maybe the only thing we would go back for out of the entire experience of the evening. The server told us that there was no charge to substitute beef for chicken plus the cauliflower crust but ended up charging us. The manager or team lead on duty tried to be a smarty by asking the server in-front of us if he had told us that to which the server said No. He then proceeded to take those charges off the bill. If you’re going to do that then no need to pull of theatrics in-front of customers. You can go to Broadway for that.
Train your employees for answering customer questions with patience and to not argue with customers.
Will I go back, maybe not but May just get the...
