some people say, a grinder made by another always tastes better than one made by yourself... well this place keeps that saying virtuous. Ive made lots of imitation creations in my own kitchen (often using store bought meat alternatives) of classic dishes, yet walking into a deli/sub shop and getting your favorite layering of lunch meat, cheeses, and fresh vegetables is something mostly reserved in the memories of my former food schemas for me. Needless to say, they seemingly have a key to transform the dusty memories of that childhood feeling, taste, and corner store sub shop atmosphere into a community guided, well-intentioned, & cruelty free experience even the most carnivorous new englander could appreciate. The bread was soft, fresh, and just chewy enough that it needed zero convincing it came fresh from a bakery down the road that day, the vegetables all had the exact amount of snap showing their freshness and flavor, they use delicious sauces to tie together the iconic tastes of a classic Italian/Ruben/ etc.. & their plant based cheeses are layered in between the star of the show, the homemade seitan, which is leagues ahead of any store bought slices. They do an amazing job to craft the most iconic replications of the classic lunch meats many cruelty-conscious people may still miss. Whether you're vegan, vegetarian, pescatarian, plant based, or just open minded, PVDeli offers reassurance that you can minimize exploitation of animals without abandoning every dish you once loved. Ill be back soon, (let me know if you craft mock pastrami... been missing...
Read moreThis deli was phenomenal, since I became vegetarian it's been difficult to find sandwiches that really hit the spot. PVD has definitely hit the spot! The portion sizes were very generous. Each sandwich came with a free bag of chips. The deli was really busy with a steady flow of people in and out. The buffalo chicken sandwich was great, the soy curls have a really nice texture and the sauces was delicious. There was a buffalo sauce and a ranch sauce. I also tried the Curly Fig was delicious. The fig jam really complimented the seitan turkey and the bread was crusty on the outside and chewy on the inside. probably my favorite of the sandwiches that we ordered. The Zeuben was tasty but the fillings slide out the back of the sandwich. I wish the "cheese" sauce had a more chewy texture to hold everything together. All of the sandwiches had a really nice balance of flavors but I found them all too saucy and wet, it really was a mess to eat. I'd still love to come back and wish I...
Read moreAbsolutely delicious! I was really looking forward to this and even so it exceeded my expectations! We got the Frank’s Italian Grinder and a side of potato salad. The potato salad was among the best I’ve ever had. The sub was perfect - ratios were just right, the seitan was DELISH, the bread was super fresh, the toppings were tasty. The owner also brought us a sample of their new coleslaw, which was awesome. We finished our meal and my husband immediately said “should we get another?”, and that’s probably the best review there is 😄 Sometimes you have vegan places that you love because of the nostalgia factor, and it definitely makes me happy to have an old-school deli in the neighborhood. But it’s even better when the food moves beyond novelty and nostalgia and lives up to really high standards, and PVDeli definitely does. We’ll...
