Iām here to corroborate my friendās story from a previous review and stand up against being gaslit on the internet.
We completely understand and accept that dogs arenāt allowed in the igloos at Lizās and we realize my friend was initially misinformed by a member of the staff inside the restaurant. We take no issue with thisāhealth codes exist for a reason, misunderstandings happen, and we are conscientious people and would have gladly switched tables to accommodate her dog.
The reason for one star is the highly abrasive manner in which we were ordered to get out of the igloo, as described in a previous review. Thereās no justification for being approached and spoken to (yelled at) the way we were. When an anxiety-provoking situation such as a health code violation presents itself in the service industry, a firm yet courteous response from the staff is the mark of true professionalism. That was completely lacking this particular day and time. (It did not seem busy or chaotic, but I know the town was coming off a long Halloween weekend.) If we were a little slow to stand up from the table (and weāre talking maybe 30 seconds), itās simply because we were taken aback from being addressed so angrily. We were stunned at the level of rudeness, and also bewildered since my friend had seemingly gotten permission moments earlier. We were just trying to process what was happening.
In response to my friendās review documenting our experience the restaurant is now asserting that her dog was being unruly. While I suppose what qualifies as āunrulyā is subjective, I feel this is not a fair assessment. Just as when we entered several other dog-friendly businesses in town that day, her dog walked in calmly on a leash, and the guests in the next igloo smiled and seemed delighted to see her, still in her bumblebee costume. She is a charming couch potato of a rescue dog and probably would have napped the whole time. But we were not even there long enough for anything else to happen. It was less than one minute that we humans sat in the chairs and my friendās dog sniffed around the floor. There was not even time for unruliness to occur before we were yelled at. (Maybe the dog reacted poorly to her human being verbally berated, but I donāt recall.) Anyway, I feel this claim is just an attempt to deflect responsibility and shift the narrative after an unflattering review.
Lizās is a very popular restaurant in Ptown and I know the majority of people have lovely dining experiences there. That doesnāt mean things canāt go awry sometimes. Own up to it when staff occasionally snaps and handles something poorlyāno employee is infallible. (I know dogs arenāt infallible either, but in this case the pup was truly not the one...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe just had the worst experience at Lizās. Unfortunately we didnāt get to dine. I went inside to inquire about bringing my dog into one of the igloos as I am always very respectful about asking and establishment first their policy on dogs. I asked inside if dogs were allowed in the igloos and he responded āyes!ā as he grabbed menus and asked us how many. I met my friend in the parking lot and grabbed my pup from the car and we got in our cozy little igloo. We were so excited to be there! As we started to look over the menu, a different gentleman angrily unzipped the tent and snapped āladies we do not allow dogs hereā, acting as if we had seated ourselves and not even bothered to ask about my dog. Naturally I was confused after being told the opposite literally 2 minutes ago. We tried to explain what I had just been told but he was not having it. As we tried to process and grab our stuff and put our jackets on it escalated to a very aggressive āI HAVE TOLD YOU 3 TIMES AND YOU HAVENT MOVEDā This was over literally about 30 seconds. He said he runs the restaurant. What an unfortunate experience. Collectively, my friend and I have never treated so rudely and abrasively at an establishment. I have dined there in the past and have had lovely experiences peak covid and I was really excited to take my friend. Such a bummer way to end our fantastic Ptown weekend.
EDIT FOR RESPONSE Wow. This is wildly inaccurate. My dog was ABSOLUTELY not unruly, she was calm and leashed. I understand sometimes people misjudge bully breeds, I assure she is the gentlest of giants. She did whine a bit while said gentleman was basically yelling at us but I am certain that there was no "inability to control my dog.ā How unfair to embellish the situation in your favor. I have been in the service industry my entire life and couldn't dream of ever speaking to a guest the way he spoke to us. Honestly, as the owner I wish you were there to see it for yourself. I of course understand health codes etc, but this was a miscommunication on your staff's part, which is absolutely excusable! However, it was still their mistake to navigate. All it would have taken would be a polite "we're sorry for the miscommunication, can we get you a patio table or would you mind bringing your dog back to your car?ā I came prepared for both of those possibilities. Please, take responsibility for this staff memberās heinous way of handling...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI worked at getting to try Liz cafe because of all the wonderful reviews. I have come to PTown annually for about 50 years. I had eaten at Tips for Topsin over the years and it was always good. 8/12/25, yesterday I had breakfast at Lizās. To make this happen and not add the $20 parking fee at Muscle Beach gym to the price of my breakfast I arrived about 7am, to search for a parking space in the surrounding streets. They open at 8am. I found a spot on Conant and waited for Lizās to open.
The restaurant is bright and cheery, tastefully decorated, clean and roomy giving a comfortable dining experience.
The wait staff was polite and quick, ready immediately with fresh coffee. I did not order coffee.
I ordered a short stack of pancakes which come with butter and a cute little steel pitcher of pure maple syrup. I asked what kind of pancakes they were because the menu simply read pancakes. The waiter gave a quizzicle look and answered -they are regular uh like a buttermilk pancake but you can have fruit like strawberry of blueberry. I could understand from the menu this meant you get āregularā as in plain pancakes of some recipe and you may pay to add portions of fruit. This is pancakes a la carte.
They were flavorless, not large, not crisp; the syrup was pure, I guess, not sweet, and didnāt have a detectable maple flavor.
I ordered a double side of bacon. This was crisp, as in over cooked, blackened; as a result the flavor was charcoal. The bacon flavor that everyone loves as a splurge but wonāt allow themselves because bacon is bad for you, had been cooked right out of it.
I ordered fresh squeezed orange juice. A tiny glass of juice arrived which was pulpy not sweetened and seemed to, in fact be, fresh squeezed.
Water was not served and I asked for a glass of ice water for my table. Again the waiter passed a quizzicle look-water, he said, yes I would like a glass of ice water as well as my orange juice.
This glass of water was the best thing I was served. It was cold, with a fresh...
