Tropical Smoothie Cafe — Restaurant in Proviso Township

I've spent a lifetime looking for a place that recreates the serenity and satisfaction that is breakfast in the Caribbean. Tropical Smoothie Cafe is NOT this place. In fact, my disappointment with this establishment is on par with the cancellation of your favorite television series or comparable to Dylan McKay seeing his father explode before his own eyes on BH 90210.

How did Tropical Smoothie Cafe disappoint me on such a grand scale you ask? Well, first is the service, we walk in and order 1 sandwich, 2 smoothies and an Acai bowl.

The Chipotle club thing comes out...bland soft pita bread, pre cooked bacon and other ungodly fillings. This place might give a vibe of healthy eating, make no mistake it can't be. Somehow the staff mistakenly made 2 of these and left it for us at no extra cost. Unfortunately it was so bad I don't think anyone will eat it. That said we also got a free bag of Mrs Vickie's BBQ chips, they can't screw those up, I hope.

Onto smoothie #1 Blueberry bliss. It's ok, a bunch of frozen fruit and too much ice. The cup itself could feed a family of four. They just have gotten a crazy deal on the 32 oz cup or whatever size it is because it's the only price point they offer. I'd be fine with 16 oz.

Smoothie #2 is nowhere to be seen even though we asked, more on this later.

Now on to the Acai bowl.... This was my item and I was really looking forward to it. The photo on the menu wall looked straight out of a Cooks Illustrated photo shoot. According to the menu it was to be acai base, fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, sliced banana, coconut, granola, chia seeds & honey. The excitement is palpable, this thing can't miss it's taken close to ten minutes to meticulously craft back in the kitchen...or can it? I'm expecting bananas finely sliced with a sushi knife I've waited so long. Alas, you know how this story ends per my attached photos.... They actually just forgot to hand me my pre made bowl they grabbed out of a freezer. The Acai base was as hard as a hockey puck. I didn't even open the lid to try it, I calmly requested a refund an walked out the door.

Don't believe the hype and just know that although this franchise or establishment looks fairly new, they don't seem to wash the floors often. Do better America. Have some respect.

Oh and about that 2nd smoothie....we walked out and forgot...

I went in to order some food on Saturday January 27 at 4pm and was greeted with 2 of the worst employees that were ever hired. The server, Giovanni A. should be fired 100%. He barely said anything to me just grunts and mumbling. When I walked in he didn't acknowledge that I was there, he hide in the corner by the drive thru window for a minute or two before making his way to the register near me and just staring at me expecting me to read his mind that he was waiting for me to order. When I asked him about the size of the new acai bowls he goes over to pull one out from the freezer and just holding it up and grunting to me to show how big it was. The other employee was no better, didn't even crack a smile or give me my food and say thanks for coming or anything. Both these guys look like they are deadbeat college kids that were forced to get a job by their parents and are clearly miserable every time they go to work. A person like that should NEVER be allowed to work in customer service and I really need to question the manager's ability to run a business if they cannot hire proper staff. The lady was very rude and disrespectful and she need to get fired from this location. It's very poor customer service here and the person was rude is the lady with a gray sweater, light blue jeans and you need to fire her because she don't got no business being rude to any doordash staff that picking up for a customer and talk to them any kind of way because if that was another black female she would got slap and hurt. She telling me and a loud tone of voice that person that going pick up have to wait and that's rude and disrespectful and now she want to get rude again and I does not want to slap that mess out this lady and don't forget I have report you through doordash and let them know. You will get fired from your job because I'm not the one play with. You will eventually get slap because was very rude and you don't suppose to talk to customer or staff like that and that's not part of customer services.
