Amazing was said by the locals but I believe this not right. Located just across from Purvis High School tucked away sits this not so secret establishment.Right when we walked in the door to this hidden gem, we were greeted by the nicest of southern hospitality charm to a nice sized table with elbow room to spare( which you will need once the food arrives and you're a little heftier like us) in a wooden cottage home feeling setting. We thought we knew what we were going to order by the picture of a delicious looking hamburger on a local Facebook page. That was not the case, however, we found a sampler platter on the menu called "meat sweats" that had a portion of each totaling 2.5 pounds of smoked to perfection meat. With a group of 4there and with having to bring my wife something home, we ordered 2 meat sweats and my daughter had the 8 piece petunias original dry rub wings which she let me try one. It was crisp on the outside with a succulent inside with flavor through and through. As far as the Meat Sweats platter, sausage was cooked just like i would on the pit. The pulled pork gave a great home comfort food feeling. I'm not into ribs at a restaurant much but for once, WOW!, tender flavorful all the way through with the perfect smoke ring and not drenched in bbq sauce which most places have to do to hide over cooking or tough quality. Last but definitely not least was the brisket. I've had brisket at many places stretched over a dozen states and this might have been the best I've ever had including my own and 2 multi championship pit masters I've eaten. It definitely proves why they are so known and recommended. As far as service, I can't really tell you much about our waitress in particular, because we were waited on by 3. They always made sure our drinks stayed filled a great freshly made southern style sweet ice cold tea. They checked on us better than some 5 star restaurants I've tried with the best attitudes and treated us even better than family. Even my children ages 10, 11, and 14 who are normally picky eaters, as most that age are, had nothing bad to say and started planning what they want to try next trip. So, yes, we WILL be back! And amazing was an understatement. I don't normally give 5 stars across the board but the staff, service and cooks, definitely...
Read moreI’m going to be honest, I smoke my own meats on my Kamado Joe, classic three but been working extra hours and just wanted to order something and pick it up as I was having a craving for ribs. I went to Petunia's BBQ in Purvis, very nice receptionist etc. but our take home ribs, brisket, were not to my liking. Tacos were not very good at all, meat very dry. The brisket was salty, the tacos were dry, and the pork ribs were not very juicy and too sweet for my palate. The sausage was fairly good but I do like the little butcher shop sausage from Hattiesburg that can be bought at Greers much better. The three side items were so small and only enough for one person so order one each for each person. I’m just posting my opinion But I would try other places when I have no time to smoke my own. I appreciate all the suggestions but personally this is just not one I...
