We came on a Friday night and waited 20 min for a table. We thought that was more than fair considering it was a Friday night and the restaurant was packed. We were a table of 4 and only received 2 menus. When our 4th guest arrived, we were told that we needed to "order now" within 1 min of her arrival. Our 4th guest had not even been asked if she wanted water. It took over 20 min and us asking our server twice before we received any water for the table. She also only brought one water and didn't think it was customary to bring 4 cups of water for the entire table.
5 min later our table of 4 received 3 cups of miso soup. We thought it was really odd that our 4th guest was again, the person who was not given miso soup. When we asked our server, we were told that her meal did not include miso soup and ours did.
3 out of 4 meals arrived 25 minutes later which were all sushi dishes. The fish was good quality but the sushi rice in the maki rolls was stale and crunchy as if it had sat in the rice cooker for over a day. It was over 40 minutes before my mom, the 4th person in our table, received her meal. She ordered the filet mignon ishiyaki which comes with a salad, soup, and rice. My mom only received her soup and her steak.
My mom his a disability and asked for a fork because chopsticks are really difficult for her to use. After 20 minutes of asking for a fork and her side orders of rice and salad, she ended using her hands to eat her steak. The service was so awful and in the end, we paid full price for an entree she only received half of.
When we spoke to the wait staff about discounting her entree, the server became very angry, argumentative and combative. In the end, she only took off our 4 soda drinks on the menu and left the entree charge as is.
With that said, we will literally never come here again. The waiters kept pushing into us the entire dinner and grabbing / moving our purses without our permission. They also spent the entire dinner slamming our plates on the table and making it obvious they didn't want us there.
We were also the only brown people in the entire restaurant. Despite our many many efforts to get adequate service, we kept noticing that the other tables around us were getting faster service with a smile on their face while we coincidentally happened to be the only table of color in there. It felt really racially targeted and unappreciated. After we had paid, the server came back and roughly grabbed our receipts (almost hitting me in the face in the process) and checked if we had tipped which was also really unnecessary and unappreciated.
We will never go back here. The...
Read moreThe food was delicious. Unfortunately it was overshadowed by a costly error by the cashier who was asked to divide a check equally between my sister’s and my debit cards. And everything after her mistake made it worse for me—not for them. 1st the full amount was charged to my card and then instead of coming to our table immediately to explain and give my sister and me the option of rectifying it between us, not leaving it at the whim of a bank who notoriously delays credits 3-5 days while debits are instantaneous. They knew they were leaving me without funds indefinitely but they didn’t care in fact they went ahead and grabbed half of the amount from my sister’s card in addition thus charging us 1-1/2 X the value of the lunch they served . They did not cancel the double billing as they advised me which might’ve helped me retrieve my money sooner from my bank. But it wasn’t their money so they didn’t care and made sure they took more without delay. .After expecting a customer to wait 3 to 6 days for their mistaken and UNAUTHORIZED (no signature therefore invalid) double charge, then failed to return our cards at all which forced us to make a special trip to pick up the next day. We realize this after we got home. Neither of these charges were authorized and I am going to instruct my bank to deny this restaurant any amount I will get my $35.30 back from a place who’s refusal to take any responsibility for their many mistakes and presumption that a customer alone should be inconvenienced has shown me how little they care about repeat business and their own reputation for fairness. Anyone can make a mistake but to misrepresent purposely to the customer when their actions in reality lay the entirety of the burden of a mistake they made onto a customer who hadn’t any control whatsoever—well that’s bad business and it’s unacceptably dishonest. They should not have charged me for the meal after all the headaches … how simple professionalism and a little less greed could have saved losing a customer as well as the cost of an...
Read moreFuji (in Wollaston; there is a completely different Fuji "at Woc" in Quincy Center that is snazzier and much more expensive ) has good sushi at a great value.
We used to live in the area (literally a 3 minute walk away) and this was our to-go dinner/lunch for sushi whenever we didn't want to cook (at the time, basically 5+ times a week). Food was always consistent - generally fresh and well made.
Unfortunately, we moved to Braintree. Nothing is comparable here in quality or value ~ but we found one that was pretty acceptable (Thai Bar Shi) and we ultimately shifted our business there as we hated driving through Quincy. Up till a couple weeks ago, we hadn't been back to Fuji for years.
Recently, our local sushi place had drastically declined in quality over a few months, so we decided to revisit our old favorite to get our sushi fix.
All I can say is wow! Prices have not gone up notably (at least cheaper than anything I can get in Braintree/Weymouth), and it taste pretty much exactly the same as how we remembered. I don't know how it stacks up to the local competition today (a lot more sushi options in Quincy now than when I lived there almost a decade ago), but with how prices are nowadays, you likely won't find a better value (please don't increase prices, lol).
As long as you keep your expectations in check (aka - don't expect Michelin Star service), this place is a gem.
We plan to visit every...
