I enjoy the flavorful Italian foods from Gennaro's Eatery. They're an authentic Italian restaurant with a large dining area as well as a huge take-out business.
On my last visit there, we decided to eat in at the restaurant. We arrived at around 6:00pm and put our names in for a table for two. This was on a Saturday night so it was expected that there'd be a bit of a wait for a table. After about 20 to 25 minutes, we were told our table was ready. For as busy as they are on weekend nights, we considered that to be an average wait time. (I'm always a little suspicious when there's no wait at a particular restaurant because to me, I consider that a warning signal that the food's not that great) So, after our 20 to 25 minuted wait, we were escorted to our table.
Perhaps my only "con" for eating in at Gennaro's is that the dining room is pretty loud due to the "open seating" like set up. The dining room can hold approximately 60 guests spread out among different tables. I was noticing that the booths along the wall had a bit more privacy than we did as a table for two sitting among many other two-tops . and four-tops. It was a little hard to hear each other talking because of this.
However, the servers are incredibly efficient and quick to keep the flow moving along. We were first brought our drinks and then a basket of bread, which by the way, is some of the best bread and butter I've ever enjoyed! The bread is like a basket of air, so fresh and light, with a soft crust on the edges. It's a true Italian bread, which pairs perfectly with any one of the Italian dishes and salads we had. Despite the efficiency of the servers, we never feel rushed to "eat and pay" and move along. We lingered for quite some time while we enjoyed our coffee and split one of their wonderful Italian desserts.
I often get take out from Gennaro's during the winter months as well. The portions are huge and the meals are delivered piping hot! They always come with a container of shake cheese and a half of a loaf of that yummy bread. I can't think of one meal that I've had from Gennaro's that didn't live up to its hype! I've had everything from the eggplant parm to the chicken and veal parm. When we want to eat light, we always order the Antipasto salad, which comes so fresh with a multitude of Italian meats, olives and homemade house dressing and we split a hot meal.
All in all, the food and the well run restaurant is definitely a 5-STAR every day restaurant with consistently great food. I deducted one star for the noisy atmosphere in the dining area. The wait time is definitely average for a restaurant this good and there is some seating available for folks during their wait for a table. I'd recommend to friends and family looking for a great meal at a very reasonable price. The average cost for two people including one alcoholic beverage is around $60, which in comparison to other restaurants seems to be right in line. I believe this family run business has been around for a long time and I see it continuing to be around for...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreYesterday was my birthday so my boyfriend took me to lunch here since I wanted Italian and this restaurant had a generally good rating. When we arrived, we had no trouble getting parking. When we entered we were greeted by two different people which made me believe we were going to have an amazing experience here. We were seated quickly. One of the daily specials was the cheese lasagna so I asked if it came with red sauce and our waitress was unsure. There was a family seated nearby us who ended up with their food before us. Our waitress came over to apologize for the delay on our food and said that we would get a free dessert on the house for our wait(which we did not get). Several minutes later our waitress came back with my food and the noodles of my boyfriendās meal and explained that the chicken was still not ready. He ordered the chicken Parmesan with Alfredo and said the chicken was disgusting, it tasted oily and as if the oil that was used was old. When my lasagna came out it was lukewarm(I can only assume possibly attempting to wait for the other meal to come out) and it was mostly just a plate of cheeses & sauce. Our waitress did not come by again after delivering the chicken however a different waitress came by to deliver our check and noticed that my boyfriend still had a large amount of food left and asked his opinion on it. When he shared his dissatisfaction she said that she was going to have them make something else for him and he chose a sub. Imagine our surprise when we got to our hotel and looked in the bag to find a different plate of pasta instead of the sub. However my boyfriend did seem to like that pasta so there is a pro. Overall this was a bad experience, especially for my birthday but I did genuinely appreciate the customer service of our waitress, the atmosphere inside the restaurant, and the friendliness of the people who greeted us when entering.
Edited since the owner has responded: I have removed names from this review so that no one is embarrassed. I used to be a waitress and my name was mentioned in several reviews, positively so I did not think about the personal impact it could have on the waitress. The different waitress who assisted us instead of our waitress had black hair and was very attentive, she took a break before our waitress did and informed her table that she would be leaving before doing so. I am genuinely surprised by the response of the owner and did not expect this much backlash due to my dissatisfaction when there are several other reviews expressing a similar disappointment. I spoke about the positives as well in my review and feel it is honest. My waitress response when I asked if there was red sauce on the lasagna was, and I quote āIām not sureā. I recall this perfectly because she said the same thing when I asked if the restaurant had sprite. To the owners, my apologies that my review hurt your feelings, however this was not intended to be personal and I am sorry it was...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreBeen customers here for many years. My parents get take out here once a week, and we often dine in. My 80 plus year old parents got take out of two meals this past Wednesday afternoon for their dinner, $23 worth of food, and when they opened it to heat it for dinner, the angel hair pasta in both dishes was mush and chopped up as if for a child, it looked like old food reheated... I told my parents to call and let them know, but my mother insisted she best show it to them and show they didn't eat any of it. They returned the very next day in the morning and the meals were shown to Jerry who denied them a refund as he said they should have called first. That's his policy. He didn't tell them himself, just made the asst mgr do it. These are two senior citizens who felt they should drive back over in 95 degree heat because that was the right thing to do. I might add no one in our family has ever returned a meal or sent anything back to the kitchen in all these years. So I called to see why he treated his regular, loyal customers so poorly and was told they would have him call me the next morning around 10 -11.... as of yet 2 days later, no call. Food is usually great and we love the staff, but...
