We had a few issues on our visit today. We ordered only 4 items. One of the items we always get when we come is the 'minced beef parsley soup'. Upon this visit they forgot to put it in their system when we ordered. We discovered this after asking about it since we usually receive it pretty fast. So By the time we actually received the soup, we were nearly full off of calamari, pork bellies and peking ravioli, so we wanted to take the remainder home. Between 2 people we had 4 little small servings with the bowls they give you with a large amount of soup remaining. They took away our items to be packaged up. I knew In my gut that i Should have double checked what they packed up because after the hour drive home I noticed this is what gave for the rest of our MEDIUM SIZED MINCED BEEF PARSLEY SOUP. I am absolutely appalled and upset as there was SO much left to be sent home with literally one serving. Its an expensive soup when you order in a bigger quantity so im extremely disappointed that they didn't give us the quantity of what we had left remaining of our soup. I will be calling first thing in the morning. Our service was generally awesome otherwise as almost every server who served us, engaged with our 1 year old son and they also didn't charge us for his steamed veggies and rice. Were just very disappointed we didn't get all of our food 😞 i apologize for leaving 3 stars as we are regulars but we can't leave this...
Read moreSouth Garden is a 5 Star authentic Chinese restaurant located in Quincy, MA. Their food was incredible and was accompanied by a friendly and humorous waiter. If you're looking for a great meal, easy parking, and uninterested in heading into Boston, then this is the perfect place.
South Garden maintains a highly busy dine-in and takeout service. Over a weekend trip back home to Boston I tried South Garden for the first time, and ended up dinning in one night and getting takeout on my way to the airport at the end of the trip.
Their half chicken coated in crispy garlic was tender, juicy, and paired perfectly with some white rice. In addition, we got the Pineapple Shrimp in Taro Pot which was an amazing spin on a mayo shrimp dish. The shrimp were large and the crispy and the soft taro pot was delicious. Another great dish we had was their ginger scallion lobster. The serving size was generous, and the plate was full of hunks of shelled lobster tails and claws. The standout dish that had all of us beyond excited was the live scallop with vermicelli and garlic. The scallops were cooked in half of their shell and covered in vermicelli and garlic sauce. This dish was absolutely incredible and I'd come back to South Garden again and again just to have this dish.
I can't wait for my next trip back home to Boston to head back to South Garden for...
Read moreAfter the new ownership came in, you could tell there was a difference to the restaurant, but nothing bad. The food quality was the same, though some of the faces had changed. I went recently (Saturday) and it was most likely one of the worst experiences I've had at a Cantonese restaurant. First, we were sat at a table where they had been counting money (they had to clear the box and everything off before they sat us) and the table cloth was dirty (stained with what looked like motor oil). The food was just as sub par. We got the beef and mustard greens (it good), chicken and broccoli (was ok as well), but the salt and pepper squid tasted like dead fish and was so chewy it was inedible. The beef brisket with noodles was ok, but the noodles weren't very crispy (ok, this is a nit-pick).
I think I'm going to have to find a new canto spot...
