Not sure how this place has managed to get above-average ratings. In my honest opinion, when you’re charging gourmet-level prices, the food and service should reflect that — unfortunately, this place fell far short.
We visited on a Sunday night when the restaurant was nearly empty, yet there was no greeting or acknowledgment upon entry. We were allowed to choose our own table, which was appreciated, but that was one of the very few positives.
We ordered appetizers right away, but the service was extremely slow. Even the mango lassi needed multiple reminders before it finally showed up. The samosas were doused in chaat masala, and the mixed vegetable platter was disappointing — crunchy, tasteless pakoras and tiny bits of mirchi alongside another samosa, again with chaat masala.
The “Paneer 55” was new to me, and frankly, I hope to never hear of it again — it was completely flavorless. The idlis were hard and dense, and surprisingly, even store-bought idlis at home taste better. No coconut chutney was served, and the sambar was overly salty. The accompanying chutneys were so bland that no one at the table even touched them.
Moving on to the entrées — the Gongura Paneer was unrecognizable, with the paneer smashed into the gravy so you couldn’t see any cubes. The Malai Kofta came with only four small koftas, and while the curry was slightly better than the rest of the dishes, it leaned overly sweet. The naans and dosas were okay. We ordered plain kulcha and were served something so crispy and dry we mistook it for papadam — turns out, that was the kulcha. But we truly appreciate the place to keep our food at mild level as requested.
This was our first — and definitely last — visit. For a place branding itself as a South Indian restaurant, getting the basics like idli, chutney, and sambar right should be a minimum expectation. Wishing them the best, but anyone who truly knows and values good food, especially at these prices, will likely...
Read moreWe are fans of other Indian restaurants in Quincy, but tonight was our first visit to Mirchi Nation and we were delighted with the food, service, and atmosphere.
We started our dinner with Chili Paneer and Chicken 65, both medium spice levels. The Chili Paneer was tasty, with a hint of crispiness on each triangle of Paneer and a red spicy sauce. The Chicken 65 was delicious (we choose the regular and not Hyderabadi this time) in a brown, differently spicy sauce. While I loved the appetizers, my tummy is less tolerant of spice than I’d prefer, so my Butter Chicken was perfectly done with a milder spice level, thinly sliced chicken breast and a sauce so good I took home the leftovers despite not having any chicken left in it! My husband had the Nizami Murgh Dum Biryani that came in huge bowl with crispy coated boneful chicken and a really enjoyable flavor. Lastly, the Garlic Basil Naan was a thin crispy style (think NY pizza) and it was perfect with my Butter Chicken.
The restaurant itself was bright and clean and we had no problem hearing each other speak. RK was our server for our first visit and service was friendly, and attentive without being intrusive. Prices were reasonable, especially in this economy (our bill with no drinks came to just over $60 before tax and tip).
The only area for improvement I can think of was that I would have liked a little more chicken in my Butter Chicken. However, we were so impressed with our dishes we will definitely be back and likely to become frequent guests.
We highly recommend Mirchi Nation for fans of Indian food (especially Hyderabadi), both meat eaters and vegetarians, and mild and spicy...
Read moreToday we visited this restaurant to try the Chicken Mandi. We were two people and ordered a two-person Chicken Mandi. When the dish arrived, we were surprised to see how little meat was served. Based on the portion size, we assumed it would cost around $25 or less — the meat provided was definitely not enough for two people.
After finishing our meal, we went to pay and were shocked to see the total was $45. For that price, we received only one leg piece, three prawn pieces, and around seven to eight small chicken cubes (similar to chicken fry pieces). The quantity of meat was extremely disappointing and did not justify the cost at all.
When we asked the waiter about it, his response was very rude. He said, “What do you get for $25? We gave prawns and chicken fry pieces on the side.” This was completely unnecessary and unprofessional.
This review is not just about the price — it’s about value for money and respectful customer service. For $45, we expected a proper two-person portion, but what we got felt like a one-person meal at best. The experience left us extremely disappointed, both with the food quantity and the attitude of the staff.
We have been regular customers here and used to enjoy visiting this place, but incidents like this really make loyal customers like us think twice before coming back. We hope the management takes this feedback seriously and improves both portion quality and customer interaction, so that other customers don’t have a...
