I went there with pretty big expectations because I have never seen a diner with such a big variety of food. When I hear diner I think of American food but this place had American, Italian, and even Greek. The food itself was fine but the service was somewhat lacking. The server forgot to bring some parts of the meal, which was still fine with me. But it was at the end that was disappointing. It might have been the owner who was at the cash register- it was an older guy with graying hair. When I went to pay he didn't say one word nor did he even look at me in the eyes once. I understand that yes it was my first time and I didn't know him... but dosen't that make it more so that he needs to talk to me at least a little bit? I was mildly annoyed... and this was the final thing. He started talking to a worker about a person not leaving a tip. He was still not even looking at me as I signed off my reciept- I took an extra minute to calculate the tip and the guy pushed me aside without even saying a "sorry" or "excuse me" and took the next person in line. It was not crowded at the cash register. It was only me and the person behind me. As I left the counter, he did not greet me. No "thank you", "come again", or "have a nice day". Nothing. This was not a very good experience for me. When I go to a place to eat that has table service, I'm used to somewhat of a short conversation, at least asking how the food was. I don't think that I would return to this place. Food itself was fine but the mannerisms that I recieved in this place... was just lacking. I really didn't want to leave tip- I don't think they even deserved 10%. In my mind business starts from how you treat people, especially the customers. It should not be only the food that brings people in...
Read moreCasual diner in Wayne that my friends and I used to frequent back when we were high school students. I came here for a quick breakfast out of nostalgia.
Unfortunately, neither the food nor service were familiar. As soon as I walked in, the waitress pointed me towards an open single booth and tiredly asked, “coffee?”
After she brought me a cup of stale coffee and the menu, she barely gave me 2 minutes before coming back to take my order (I was not ready).
I ordered the turbo omelette, which sounded promising (egg whites, grilled chicken, avocado and tomato). I also asked for a water with lemon, which she never brought.
The server proceeded to bring over some toast which sat at the table getting cold while I waited for the rest of my meal. As for the omelette, the chicken tasted old and the overall flavor was bland. I replaced the egg whites with regular eggs, which didn’t seem to enhance the flavor. The hash browns were also season-less and barely cooked. The only part of the meal that I enjoyed was the avocado, which tasted lightly seasoned, even though it was bunched up in the middle of the omelette instead of being spread evenly.
I waited for the check and the server ended up sitting at the table in front of mine once a customer came in whom she seemed to know. I had to resort to going to the bar to ask for my check from another server.
Pro-tip: they do not take contactless (Apple Pay). I had to provide my credit card number from a photo saved on my phone because I had no other way of making payment.
All in all, this seems to be a local spot for the comfort and convenience but based on the awful service and food, I will not be...
Read moreMinella's used to be above-average for a diner. Thirty years ago. But it's fallen hard since then.
Today I went for breakfast. The scowling man sitting in his ass behind the cash register scowled us all the way to a table. Maybe he grunted but otherwise didn't say a word. Nor did he or anyone else mention that the internet was down so we'd have to pay for breakfast in cash. There were no signs or any other notice. But there was an ATM in the foyer, which charged an exorbitant service fee for withdrawals and probably stole my debit card information as well. It would fit the diner's motif.
No one smiled while we were there. Maybe the waitress, once, as she scurried past the table.
I got a basic stack of pancakes. They were yellow, like corn meal, and they had a chemical aftertaste as if they were made from a just-add-tap-water mix from a dollar store. As is fairly common these days, I got three little plastic syrup tubs, which I hate. I like diners with syrup pitchers, which let me use the amount of syrup I want and which get refilled instead of going straight into a landfill.
None of this kept the three pancakes and bacon from costing $12. I've been to some diners (e.g., Collegeville Diner) where that would probably feel like a fair price for what I got. Here, it felt like getting mugged.
I also ordered chocolate milk, which was just milk with some fake chocolate flavored syrup poured in. Also way overpriced for what it was.
That was my final visit...
