I have eaten here extensively in the past in small groups and with larger business groups. Have liked the ambience and food style. Brought an old friend from Center City here with his wife to join my wife and I. This was the week AFTER PA loosened restaurant restrictions and finding reservations was near impossible. My friend's wife is hearing impaired after injuries sustained in the line of duty while serving our country. She normally reads lips so mask wearing has made her life difficult to say the least. We were seated, ordered apps and drinks with a very green, but very nice young waitress. We ate our apps and enjoyed our cocktails when my wife asked to be excused to use the restroom. As she masked up to leave the table, our guest's wife asked her a question which my wife answered. She did not hear her due to the low din, mask and music in the restaurant and she asked her to repeat. My wife leaned in to the table, pulled down her mask, and repeated what she said. A manager was on my wife immediately and without warning or polite manners, told her she needed to put her mask up and comply. She agreed and tried to explain but he adamantly refused to listen and actually followed her to the woman's restroom where he lingered outside. I watched him wait for her and within a few minutes, she emerged with her mask on. He followed her and said that he observed her wiping her mouth without a mask on exiting the restroom. She denied, but he insisted. We succumbed to his insistent badgering and apologized more or less just to have him leave as he was making an uncomfortable scene in a small, crowded space. He said 'if it happens again, I will force you to leave!' I asked him how if I observed her wearing it coming out, how he could insist she was not wearing it. He became more incensed and then simply said, 'that's it, she has to leave!' I said, 'well if she has to leave, we are all leaving and our food should be arriving any minute.' He refused to listen and had the waitress deliver our check which initially included the entire uneaten meal but was corrected. We tipped the young and flustered waitress as if we had eaten our meal. She was very apologetic and even after the tip, agreed that the situation was being wrongfully handled. It truly seemed this manager was having a bad day from the get go, perhaps even a bad year. Yes, the restaurant business is stressful but never let it show to your clientele or worse yet, over react in way that damages the restaurant's image. Uncalled for and we will never dine here again as this guy is...

Review:
Words fail to adequately describe the sheer horror I experienced at the notorious restaurant known as White Dog. From the moment I stepped foot into this culinary abyss, my taste buds were assaulted and my stomach turned in dismay. The evening unfolded into a nauseating ordeal that will forever be etched in my memory.
Let's start with the abomination they dare to call a burger. I ordered it cooked to perfection, but what I received was a raw, bloody mess that could have passed for a crime scene. It was an unsettling sight, and the mere thought of consuming such undercooked meat made my stomach churn with disgust. White Dog clearly has no regard for basic food safety standards or the well-being of its customers.
But the horrors didn't end there. The cheeseburger I reluctantly opted for as a replacement turned out to be an insult to the very concept of cheeseburgers. Despite explicitly requesting cheese, the sad excuse of a burger arrived devoid of any trace of that promised ingredient. It's baffling how a supposedly functioning establishment can fail at such a fundamental task. White Dog's incompetence and negligence know no bounds.
As if my culinary ordeal wasn't already unbearable, I decided to venture into the world of pasta. What a mistake that was. The dish that arrived at my table was an absolute travesty. It consisted of a sad, watery pool of sauce drowning in a sea of emptiness. The pasta, if one could call it that, was virtually nonexistent, leaving me with nothing more than a bowl of unappetizing liquid. White Dog's attempt at serving pasta was an unequivocal failure, and I was left questioning their competency in the culinary arts.
To add insult to injury, the service at White Dog was as deplorable as their food. The staff appeared disinterested and utterly unconcerned with the abysmal quality of the dishes they served. Their lackadaisical attitude only served to exacerbate my frustration and disappointment.
In conclusion, my experience at White Dog was nothing short of a gastronomic nightmare. The undercooked and red burger, the cheeseless cheeseburger, and the pasta devoid of pasta itself all stand as testament to the utter incompetence and disregard for customer satisfaction that permeates this establishment. I implore anyone with even a modicum of respect for their taste buds and gastrointestinal well-being to steer clear...
Read moreVery disappointed in our experience, which put a serious damper what should have been a nice evening.
We recently relocated to Wayne and read good reviews about White Dog Cafe. We were still unpacking and weren't looking for a fancy night out, but read about their "Happy Hour" menu online and thought we would check it out one afternoon. We walked a fair distance (it was a nice evening), and the hostess found us a table even though we didn't have a reservation. That's when things went a bit sideways.
We had hoped to try their "Happy Hour" menu we saw advertised on their website. However, we were seated in a room that apparently does not qualify, and our waiter was polite but firm that we would have to order off the regular menu. We actually had to pull up the Happy Hour menu on a phone, where we saw it only applied to the bar and "den." But it was the same exact food. As there was plenty of open space at the bar, we thanked the waiter and went to see the hostess.
Surprisingly, we were told they were "full up" even though the bar seemed almost empty and there were at least 4 tables open outside (they implied that constituted the "den" area). It was almost 6 p.m., so it was difficult to grasp why people would be making reservations for the bar area instead of more traditional tables. But even more perplexing was the lack of any effort to find a solution on the part of the staff. I worked in a few restaurants in my day, and I'd never experienced anything quite like this. Customers were eager to try the establishment, they had seating available, and they would rather we left than either sort out an easy seating puzzle or simply say, "sure, we extend the Happy Hour menu six feet farther." It doesn't exactly require an act of Congress. Instead, they're telling your customers that they can either pay more for the same meal simply...because, or they can leave and the restaurant will happily keep that table open.
Ultimately, we decided to pass. "Another time, perhaps," I politely said to the hostess, half expecting that to be the point where she came up with a sensible compromise. Nope. If they would have told us when we walked in that they had nothing available, we would have left with more respect for the establishment and might have come another time.
Instead we walked back down to N. Wayne Ave. Sadly, by that point the dinner rush had started, so we missed our opportunity to get a table at a restaurant more...
