Golden China has been a staple for me over the past 20 years. I've stood by this restaurant through thick and thin—whether it was a drop in their sanitation score, missing food items, or dishes that didn't meet their usual standards. They always accommodated my special requests, which kept me coming back. Even after moving further away six years ago, I continued to make the 20-minute drive to support them because I trusted the quality of their food.
Today, however, feels like the final straw, and writing this review feels like writing a breakup letter. When I got home, I called to inform them about the poor quality of my meal. As we tried to eat it, it was clear it was inedible. I called back to let them know I would be returning the food and requested a replacement, hoping for a larger size as a gesture for the inconvenience. They agreed, but when I arrived with the meal, the cashier began ringing up a new order. Confused, I asked why, and she explained that because I asked for more, I needed to pay for it. I was fine with getting the same exact order that I had before.
I tried to explain the inconvenience of having to come back, but she insisted she couldn't afford to give extra food. I also can't afford to waste gas on a round trip for food that was overcooked and tasteless. She blamed the quality on the cook, but the only cook I saw was the one that has been there for 20 years. Despite telling them I wouldn't write a review and would just call to discuss the issue, my recent experience compelled me to share.
I truly wish them all the best in their business, but based on today's experience with both the food quality and customer service, they have lost a loyal customer. This really does feel like the end of a long relationship, and it's unfortunate it had to...
Read moreI'll tell you, I'm never ordering again from "golden China" After a long day at work, I called to place an order for me and my wife. Granted, the order was large (4 entrees and 2 soups) but I was willing to pay full price and wait. When I finished the order over the phone, the female owner said "okay, it will be ready in 20 minutes." I walked out the door one hour and 17 minutes after that phone call ended. I saw several people walk out with their orders in no time. Before I left, I made another comment to the owner about the wait time and she did absolutely nothing except make excuses about how busy they were. I love supporting local businesses, but I have NO respect for a business owner who doesn't respect their clients. There were ample opportunities to do a partial refund, include free drinks, or do a voucher for another visit. All of these opportunities were wasted. If you make excuses about a chef being out, close your doors. Waiting over an hour for food does nothing but harm what little reputation you had...
Read moreWorst Chinese food I’ve ever gotten. I ordered shrimp fried rice, an order of chicken wings, beef & broccoli with fried rice. It literally looked like the shrimp fried rice had been made last week and they just reheated it to sell. I gave it a chance and fixed a plate. It tasted just how it looked. The chicken wings tasted like they had been fried on Monday and dropped back in the grease to heat up. It was DISGUSTING. The beef and broccoli, my boyfriend only ate a small portion. He said he didn’t like it. It was late, I didn’t call because I know they weren’t going to give me a refund and I didn’t feel like making myself madder than what I was. I also did not want them to reheat more food and try to give it to me. I should’ve known when I pulled up and the place was empty not to eat there. Good Chinese food in Raleigh is hard to come by. I wouldn’t give this food to a homeless...
