This place is just opened (4/20) and there were a few speed bumps, but that’s to be expected. It shouldn’t discourage you. It’s delicious.
For those who don’t know, Viet-Cajun is a spin on the standard low country boil. It hails primarily from Houston, where you can find it all over the place. And that’s exactly what this is.
The ingredients are the same. Potatoes, corn, crawdads/crab/shrimp. But after the boil, is where things get the big change. The whole thing gets tossed in a wet sauce afterwards. A buttery, garlicy, lemony delicious mess. If you thought a regular low country boil was messy, well…just don’t wear your nice clothes. They give you a bib, and plastic food handlers’ gloves. Personally, I find that makes it hard to handle and de-shell the food, so I go bare-handed. Maybe I’ll bring my own nitrile gloves next time. It comes to your table in a bag, and if you go to dump it like a normal boil, you’ll get a lot of spreading juices and sauce. If you open the bag and just roll down the outside, you can contain that sauce for dipping.
We got shrimp and crawfish in the Big Bang (All three options) sauce, with a half pound of sausage. The sausage got a bit on the salty side, which I find happens sometimes if it’s cut too thin. It was still good, but we put most of it in the container to take home with our Cajun fried rice. The fried rice was pretty good, but I’d be hesitant to pay $8 for it again. You get a good amount, but there’s not much in there beside the rice, seasoning, and a few pieces of sausage. $6 and I would suggest it to my friends and get it every time. Oh, and we got ours Mild spicy level. It was definitely mild, with only a hint of heat, so it’s only barely above the No-Heat level. You also get a little container of garlic butter, but if you take my above mentioned suggestion, you won’t even need to open it.
They haven’t gotten in the beer yet, which was a sad, because a good quaffable beer goes great with this kind of food. My corn was also soggy and over boiled, so was disappointed by that. Would have rather had more potatoes.
I’m so happy that one of these places has finally made it to the Triangle. With the large Viet community here, it was only a matter of time, and that time has come!! PS: Not a...
Read moreWe have been back twice. We have been looking for a spot like this since we visited a seafood crab house in orlando, fl this past may and glad we found one in raleigh.1st time we visted was overall a great experience. The food was hot and very tasty. We had crab legs, lobster, and lots of shrimp. Full of flavor and we were satistied. We loved the wings. They were nice and crispy. Our server was very well mannered and attentive. The manager helped get our table started until our server took over so we didnt have to wait long without service. Food came out quick as well. We ordered some drinks also. Drinks had more ice than we would of liked so thats the only thing i would improve from the visit. Also the only other seafood place we went included 2 eggs, 2 potatoes, and 2 boiled eggs. Here you have to order extra to get the 2nd corn. I would say to already include that for the seafood bags. Its a small thing but would make a big difference.
Our 2nd visit the food was great. We got lobster and shrimp. We got the wings again too but this time they were not as crispy as the last time but still tasty and hot. The food was very well seasoned like the 1st time and we were satisfied overall. We had a different server this time. Very nice lady. Not as attentive as our first visit but still checked on us atleast once and right away when we were finished and ready to check out. Got drinks again this time to maybe see if they would be different but had too much ice again. We will still frequent this place because the food is great and we love seafood.
Again the only thing I would improve is consistency with the cook of the wings or ask for extra crispy if you order. Also, for drinks to have a bit more alcohol and less ice because I would order several if I enjoyed it but beer is a safe bet. Lastly, including 2 corn, eggs, and potatoes would make a...
Read moreI really love this place. I eat here at least twice a month, I don’t mind the wait however tonight I received my food it was Hot and Good and didn’t take long. My only issue was it was a African American waitress talking to about 4 Korean individuals about one of her tables walking out. I heard the Korean Guy name Eddie because i looked at his name tag tell her she would have to pay 105.00 for the customer who had walked out. The girl was in tears almost saying I went back to get my other customers food and came back and the lady with her kids was gone. He was telling her she still had to pay. The girl walked off and as she walked off the group of Korean individuals all 4 started laughing loudly and kicking their feet up. I was disgusted. I’ve never felt so bad for someone in my life. I was saddened for her because she did not eat that food. It needs to be a better system set up where before you go out the doors you show some kind of receipt. The laughing and talking once she walked off was not Good Business. I almost paid the 105.00 myself and I didn’t even eat the food. A business like that without employees is not a business. With all that money coming in on the weekends/weekdays it’s no reason why a server should have to pay or run behind someone who don’t pay their tab. That’s Dangerous I’m very upset about this and the behavior of Eddie and the 3 others who basically laughed in this girl face while she was trying to explain herself. Please do better. Find a better system cause...
