This is your typical Chinese place that has several (here, six) spartan booths in the restaurant, but probably does more take-out business. You know, the one with the dozen back-lighted pictures of entrees on the menu. Yep, that kind.
Sometimes language is an issue in these restaurants, but not this time. It was my first visit. The lady who took my order understood me well enough to answer any questions I had about the way the food was prepared, etc.
Kung Bo Shrimp: I think this is their equivalent to Kung Pao. I tried it and it was pretty good. This was the $4.75 lunch special. Quantity for that price was very generous. It was a standard, but good, brown sauce which had carrots, celery, water chestnuts, mushrooms, green peppers, and peanuts. The shrimp wasn't overdone, and they were large and numerous enough. The peanuts were sprinkled on top, after cooking, and were probably Planters or similar.
Cashew Chicken: my friend got it and he said it was good. It looked like it was cooked just like the Kung Bo, but it wasn't as spicy. Like the peanuts above, the cashews were sprinkled on after cooking.
Pork Fried Rice: average. It had more flavor than Rainbow Garden (up North near Youngsville), but was not as moist.
Crab Rangoons: very good. These are the envelope style, which would be triangles, but two of the points are folded in. They were generously stuffed and the wonton they used was light and crispy.
Summary: right now, after limited exposure, I prefer Taste of China over Rainbow Garden. I have not yet tried the third one in the area, Hong...
Read moreThis Taste of China restaurant on 14460 Falls of Neuse Rd in Raleigh is pretty good... Iâm often in Raleigh lately for business. Iâve stopped by here several times... Food is good.. I usually get General tsos or sesame chicken but have gotten other dishes too. Good stuff. Just my only gripe is the service... the food can be good but if you give bad service it just makes everything bad. The owner here is rude. I asked him once to help me pronounce some Chinese that was written on a fortune cookie. He said âtoo busy. No timeâ even though there was nobody in the restaurant and he wasnât cooking anything. The second time I came I asked him again to help me pronounce some Chinese from my fortune cookie and again he rudely said âtoo busy. No timeâ I waited until he wasnât busy to ask him. He is just rude and doesnât want to bother helping anyone.
Also, one time after I ate...I sat on my phone checking my email and replying to Facebook messages for about close to an hour. This rude owner guy walked over and said âwhy are you still here??â then he said âyou eat, you goâ Rude. I have a feeling not many people like this guy...His wife is nice though... and his teenage daughter who usually helps taking orders is nice.. the teenage daughter doesnât speak very good Chinese though apparently. She told me âmy chinese isnât good enoughâ when I asked her to help me pronounce the Chinese off the fortune cookie. I just really donât like the owner. No matter if heâs busy or not, he never has time for anything. Heâs kind of...
Read moreHave been going to this place for over a year now (I used to go growing up but moved away and recently moved back over a year ago) and today will be my last time going. My family and I love Chinese food and routinely purchase food from here once a week but they continue to disappoint. It all started when I stated a food item was not cook properly and another item was missing, I was instantly called a lair and accused of wanting free food. (Mind you I purchase a lot here very often never has that been my goal). I have since continued to give them chance after chance with continued disappointment. Not once since have they ever been pleasant instead have been very rude and abrupt with the quality of their food declining as well. Today, they were extremely rude when asking about the price of an item and then when I came home I found hair in my food upon opening the container and I have completely called it a quits with Taste of China.
I wish negative stars were an option when rating this establishment because that is what they deserve. The owners also have their middle school aged daughter working for them constantly who I know is not of working age. (My daughter and her spoke many of times prior to the rudeness...
