We went on the grand opening on May 17th and it is great to have an authentic Dominican restaurant in Raleigh. The restaurant occupies a former Jamaican restaurant space and is on Capital Blvd. We heard about it from a friend on Instagram and are glad we did. The food is set up cafeteria-style and you pick from the displayed food behind the glass or from the menu on the screen. We ordered empanadas to start and they have chicken, cheese and other fillings. Honestly, the empanadas tasted like they were fried in old oil so not sure I would order again. The entrees were homemade and rico. For entrees, we had the beef guisado and chicken with a side of white rice, beans and the ensalada rusa (beet salad). The beans have pumpkin and you can pour them over the rice or eat separately. Everything was flavorful and delicious. The gentleman running the register said they are from New York and we were excited to find a Dominican community here in NC. They don't have their alcohol license just yet, however when they do, they will be serving up Presidente. They have fresh passion fruit juice , lemonade and fountain drinks for now. I also noticed breakfast items so you can go before lunch. Pictures of the bandera and Santo Domingo line the walls and there is seating inside and outside. Our food was served in to-go containers and the prices and portions match up. We will be back soon y gracias!

Yes, the food was delicious! However, the service was not great. Upon arrival you’ll see a buffet like area. We ordered there and were told we can sit anywhere. The table we chose had a menu. We looked at the menu and my husband decided to order additional food to take back to the hotel. Waitress came to the table with our drinks and my husband ordered. Her body faced him and as soon as he was done talking she left and I was unable to order additional food to take home. The plate he order to go cost $30 and there wasn’t much like shown on the menu. Throughout the time she checked on us she would only face him and ignore me. When we went to pay the overall cost was $80. I paid $100 in cash and either she don’t know how to count or she tipped herself. I would not go again to this restaurant despite the good food not worth facing rude people. I found the receipt and attached it!! She tipped herself $15 because I only received $12 back!!! And she included the $10 tip when she charged and stole $5 when handing me the change. DO NOT GO HERE. Check receipts before leaving!!

First of all I asked the server for water and she brought me hot water in a cup with no ice but of course they don’t care they get a 15% tip included. For one, not even listening to the customers, I had to call her over five times and then she overpriced me for a meal that was $19. She charged me $24 when I realized I explained to the other server that was walking by and she went to my server. when she got there three servers, we’re all together huddled around for over 10 minutes talking about how they were going to explain the situation to me. I finally had enough and just paid for the bill WITH CASH & when I was walking away. The server said ā€œoh she’s not going to pay for her foodā€ and I said honey, the money is on the table. I understand Covid did a lot to small businesses, but greed is the route to all evil I promise you that. Great service is unforgettable. Remember that that’s a piece of advice. I work at a restaurant that has over 222 restaurants. We legit charge a 15% tip if we have a party over seven, not when a mother and daughter are having a casual meal. We ain’t in punta Cana. The place isn’t up to those standers (look wise) I suggest to invest for those prices. & And the false advertisement is what got me! One price on the menu but baby on that bill they will make sure to charge a couple more dollars to your meals! but when you get your tab, that’s a different story and the excuse is ā€œI’m so sorry that your server didn’t explain this to youā€ Now I’m Dominican and I understand that sometimes my people can be very sneaky, but this is very unfortunate because this is legit one of the only Dominican restaurants in North Carolina. You would think they would do better. And five dollars for chinola holy crap we all know you get that from Food Lion and throw some ice on it. I think that training needs to be involved I because I’m a server myself and it just makes no sense. She spent more talking more time talking to the other servers than actually making things right with me but because that 15% is included she feels like she didn’t have to do anything which really sucks because the food wasnt that but also not too notch. Presentation is false advertising as well but imagine actually putting the work in with your soul you guys can succeed. To my opinion won’t last long. it ruined the whole experience for me so therefore I will never go back there again. Shame to say that I’m Dominican coming from Rhode Island thinking that this would be a great experience in North Carolina, but wow que...

We just finished eating here tonight our younger server was good other than not bringing the food i asked for my child. Older woman told us they only had made to order food so we spent money on that which was fine i guess but the price of everything was not worth it never knew what i order would be so expensive which I was fine with until i saw my plate of food and definetly not worth the price. Half way done with our meal still waiting on my childs food to seeing that the older lady lied about what she said she only had and see her taking food from the counter and serving it to the people to go plates and the waitress not writing down my sons order. 50$ I spent was still in shock and my child didnt eat literally for some 2 mofongo meals with very few very small chunks of fried meat , a plate of tostones and 3 cups of juice $50!! Feeding my child some of my food and him wondering why he only has a plate placed in front of him with only fried plantains telling me he's hungry waiting on his chicken or at least we thought we were my husband finally went in for them to say no they never put that in. I was excited to go here tonight and my night ruined, the food wasn't what i expected and that my husband is dominican so he was more excited than me you can imagine we haven't been out for awhile at restaurants so I was excited to have a night out with my family not to mention the music was extremely loud for us for the simple fact that we were the only ones in the patio area, once the fan broke while eating a ton of flies came swarming though on our food and mosquitos. What a shame second Domincan restaurant we've tried in raliegh and being disappointed both times. I wouldn't recommend this place save you're money and make your own Dominican...

I am the Owner of Cafe Colao and client of The Dominican Restaurant. As a client, premium service, as Cafe Colao, the coffee shop with the Ghost Kitchen, we strive to have everyone’s order ASAP 90% of the time. As EVERY Restaurant, there are busy times and not so busy. As per E Rain’s experience, after sitting somewhere for 5 minutes and several orders before her pickup, because she wasn’t a client, she was a driver picking up a meal from Door Dash, we jumped several orders to fulfill hers and even had Door Dash on the phone to explain the situation. She said she was leaving, which she had all the right to cancel that order and another driver would have picked it up. Since she ā€œleftā€ we procede with the orders as they had come in, mind you, she was just calling Door Dash outside, telling them she was here for over half and hour. It could happen, I’ve personally talk my the drivers and they share there experiences everywhere with sometimes an hour wait. I personally look for the orders in the kitchen, if there is a wait of more than five minutes. Personally didn’t see E Rain the several times I asked EACH driver for their order. My apologies, if I missed her, which I don’t see how, if I went over to the drivers several times as they kept coming. But once again. The Dominican Restaurant has nothing to do with it, NOR E Rain was a client for the restaurant. For not being ā€˜The Ritz’, The Dominican Restaurant is a very welcoming Spot to visit, with new Patio to come with family and friends, or even alone and enjoy the weather, the food, the music. They don’t need to be anything else to...
