Nara Thai Cuisine — Restaurant in Rancho Palos Verdes

this used to be my absolute favorite restaurant in all of san pedro, back when it was called tanawin thai bistro.

since the new owner has bought it the place is a mess.

She refuses to hire any wait staff, ostensibly to save money .

several times now I have gone in and sat down and waited between 15 and 20 minutes without being acknowledged by either the owner or the teenager working behind the cash register.

I understand she is very busy and it's hard to run a restaurant.

The least you can do is acknowledge your customers when they walk in the door and say I will be right with you.

Yesterday we walked in and the girl behind the register was on a phone call looking at her computer for 20 minutes. She never once looked up. She never once acknowledged any of the customers. The owner was in the back plating all the dishes.

Basically there is no host or hostess. There are no waiters. There is simply the owner and a young girl behind the register who has no customer service skills.

The food is still fabulous. I love this restaurant however I will not go back anymore because I cannot get any service.

Will someone, anyone, who reads this review and likes this restaurant please let the owner know she's punching below her weight. The food is still good. She could easily run a good operation if she hired one person to work the floor.

She's basically trying to be the chef, the line cook, the owner, the waiter, the hostess, and the manager all at once.

Really wish I had taken a picture before trying. Husband and I came here for lunch on a Thursday and each got a Lunch Special meal, yellow curry and the broccoli. We also got water. The water was the first surprise as it was infused with cucumber, lemon and strawberries. So refreshing and delicious! Then our food came out on a long plate each. With a fresh, mixed green salad and refreshing, light dressing. I didn’t ask but seemed in house made and slightly gingery. Our entrees were in separate dishes with a nice sized side of white rice. Have’s been here since they changed from Tanawin Thai to Nara Thai. Ordered online and when I went to pick up my order they couldn’t find it at first. Then said it would be ready in a few minutes. 35 minutes waiting there it was finally ready even though place was not busy. Came home with food only to find out they forgot to give me rice with my curry. Also curry was supposed to be mild but instead was very spicy. Cream cheese wontons had virtually next to no filling. To add insult to injury they ask for a tip when ordering online.. Glad I didn’t tip for such poor service and inferior food. Will not go back and looking for another local Thai restaurant...
