My wife and I moved to Somerset New Jersey from New York .We haven’t had great Jamaican food since we’ve been here so I googled “The best Jamaican food restaurants in NJ “and hibiscus Island Grill came up with great reviews . Although it was 45 minutes away in Randolph, Which we’ve never heard of by the way ,we decided to give it a try. I’m gonna be completely honest, Randolph is beautiful but it does not seem like the place you would go to for Jamaican food! Anyway we finally arrive and we are greeted by two very wonderful , polite and knowledgeable young men . One who is the owner’s son and they educate us on the food selection which by the way looks mouthwatering😋. We order our food . I had the curry goat ,plantains with the cabbage and rice and beans and my wife had the Rasta pasta , Oxtails , rice and beans and cabbage . Oh my God the food was so delicious and they make the best Jamaican food in New Jersey! My wife and I sampled each other’s food and we couldn’t even tell you which dish or side dish that we liked the most because they all were equally delicious. 😋 As we are leaving , we met the owner outside , a wonderful and humble lady named Karlene and told her how good the food was and how far we came . Apparently she was very impressed that we drove so far that she actually gave us a complementary desert of her famous rum bread pudding! I told her that my wife don’t like bread pudding she said “trust me have her taste it when you get home and I guarantee you she’ll love it”. She also said a lot of people who don’t like bread pudding said they love this bread pudding. Oh boy. Obviously she don’t know my wife. So we get home and are eating it and trying to figure out how in the world is this bread pudding tasting so great and what on earth did she put in it? Liquor? 😂 Apparently yes! We have found our favorite restaurant of any type of food in Randolph New Jersey called Hibiscus Grill! Can’t wait to go back! Make that trip I guarantee you it’s worth it and make sure you try the bread pudding! 😋 I give...
Read moreBest Birthday Ever!!! For my Birthday I wanted to have caribbean food because I was born and raised in the Caribbean and I wanted my guest to enjoy the Caribbean Cuisine as well. I searched online for an up scale Jamaican Restaurant and came across Hibuscus Restaurant's Website. After reading the reviews. I got so excited, I called the following day, and made reservations. Two days before my dinner plans I wanted to make certain, there was sufficient parking for my guest... So I did some follow-up research and realized the restaurant was located inside the Best Western. This discouraged me a little; but when I called the restaurant they reassured that it was going to be worth it. Well... I am soooo glad I didn't cancel. When we arrived the entrance was near the parking lot which made it easy to access the Restaurant. Just down a few stairs and you're there. The steel pan playing caught my ears as I walked down the stairs... the friendly staff greeted my party and I so warm and welcoming I felt as if they've met us before; They also ensured that everyone was comfortable and well taken care of throughout the night. The food was FANTASTIC; Of a party of 10 everyone loved their selection... Overall the evinvironment was exactly what I wanted... I give them a 10... If you are like me and want a little touch of home this is where you want to be. If you want to experience something different this is where you want to be. If you just want good caribbean food with good vibes this is where you want to be. I promise, you won't be disappointed. If I had to say one negative...I would say that they didn't put enough sweet plantain on my plate!! Honestly though I had an awesome birthday and I would like to thank the Manager and Staff at Hibiscus for contributing towards that! If you didn't read all of that just go and try it for yourself you...
Read moreWe must have gone at the wrong time (8:30 pm) or something because this place was TERRIBLE. The live music was the only good we found for our friend's birthday party. The service was slow, uncoordinated and quite frankly, annoying. Our waitress took her sweet time dealing with her two other customers for 45 minutes before coming to our party of 5. She didnt ask if we wanted drinks, she went straight to the menu. It was not super busy so I couldnt understand why everything was taking so long. Being the only large party there, I could understand if food prep took awhile; but I never expected our food to come out cold and tasting like it came out of a can. I had ordered the curry chicken (spicy) and their version of spicy? To put one small uncut chili pepper hidden under my bowl shaped rice. Atmosphere here was a 4/10 without the music, they definetly need to redecorate if they want to improve business. I was absolutely shocked that because one of our friends came late coming out of work, he couldnt even sit and enjoy company telling the waitress he wasnt hungry. The waitress told him he HAS to order something in order to sit in their restaurant. On top of that, another 20 minutes just to have her come back out and grab our checks. Spent more than an extra hour waiting for this service to pick up their pace. Mortified by my experience here and will NOT be recommending to anyone during the...
