Ive never been to the Peanut Bar, but thought id at least google it based on the recommendation from family. To the reviewer giving one star because an owner tried to make a little profit, but the food and service were apparently up to your standards according to your review..... What in the world are you thinking? I work in the service industry and there are plenty of examples of items being overpriced. I dont know how much a bottle of wine costs because im simply not a wine fan, but i bet anybowner might mark it up a few bucks because its not a frequently purchased item from the menu. If its out of your price range, dont buy it. Thankfully anyone with half a brain will look at your one star review as bogus simply because you got a wild hair up your butt. Im going to now go check out the peanut bar simply to spite you, and remember to tip...

Reading PA Institution, the famous peanut bar where roasted in the shell peanuts are offered free for all patrons, and shells discarded on the floor, have in recent years buys their menu and taken on a Prohibition theme, since they had many prior locations during those years when they were a bit of a speakeasy. Award-winning wings delicious salads, much American Fare, however they no longer serve an old favorite of mine the Middle Eastern platter. Still, it was a fantastic dining experience, and they even have some cocktail suggestions which have a Prohibition theme. History of Reading and Berks and the peanut bar itself displayed on the video screens where television is not displayed. Portraits of Jimmy and Annie Kramer and more recent owners also prominently featured. Famous and quality restaurant with a near...

The other night we were going out for dinner but did not know where to go. As an after thought, we said how about the peanut bar. We have not been there for ages. Got there and we were pleasantly pleased about the amount of business they had. We enjoyed a drink at the bar with their unique attentive and entertaining bartender. After being seated we had a fantastic waiter, he talked me into trying something prepared on there new state of the art broiler and it was very very good my quest sampled their seafood platter equally good. Service was great, even the owner came to our table introduced himself and asked how everything was. Very welcoming place it made for a very good evening. And we will defiantly visit here more often. And don’t forget to toss a few peanut shells on...

One of the best experiences I've ever had at a restaurant. We came for a graduation celebration and were greeted with custom menus with the graduate's name. Sabrina brought such a sense of joy and passion to our table, and her recommendations were spot on for every course. The food coming out of the kitchen was easily a bright star in the Reading area, with each dish coming out perfectly. From wiener schnitzel to seared ahi tuna, there was not a disappointing bite throughout the meal. Desserts were a perfect complement to our entrees, and the touch of having the graduate's name written in chocolate was the attention to detail you rarely see these days. It's very easy to see why this restaurant has been around for 98 years, and I wouldn't be surprised to see it around for another 98.

Came into reading for a show at the arts theater. Parking is available right next door. It was our first time at the peanut bar restaurant and it was very warm and welcoming. We made reservations in advance for 5:30. We arrived and we’re seated promptly. Restaurant has spacious seating for two people up to and including multiple families. Nice drink and food menu. We happen to be there on a jazz night which was very pleasant while we dined. Food and drinks came out quick once we ordered. Crab cake had a wonderful garlic sauce, veggies were crisp and flavorful. Bacon burger was cooked to my liking, with lots of bacon on top. Huge dill pickle came with my meal. The whole place was an absolute gem. Will definitely be coming back!!

One Warm Welcome...not from the area, found this place open on a Monday night. I had no idea of its history or anything about the place. A timeless feel to the interior, warm wood character & 50s charm, I could feel this place had a lot of history but didn't realize a Reading PA celebrated legend. The bartender/owner & my Server we're kind, accommodating and very informative...a slower night. Served up with their menu with a narrative on the history of the establishment "in a nutshell". The menu offered a nice variety from Seafood, Italian, German, Steaks, Burgers and much more. Seems like a Hot Spot with plenty going on, warm vibes, great peeps & good food to serve up for generations to come!
