This place was interesting. It’s very small, and the staff was very friendly. The menu was posted in English, but the ladies only spoke Spanish. (Thankfully, I can speak Spanish.) We ordered a few things. Some were really good, some were not. And we waited quite a while for our food.
We ordered a cheese steak, a breaded chicken sandwich, and chicharrones. We also ordered a strawberry milkshake, a cup of flan, two different slices of wet Mexican cake. The steak sandwich was good. The chicken in the chicken sandwich also tasted very fresh and hand breaded. Unfortunately, they didn’t make it plain for my daughter, even though I specifically said PLAIN (sin nada, sólo pollo y pan) in the order. Apparently it normally comes with a little bit of refried beans, cheese, lettuce, tomato, and mayo, which I think is a delicious combo BUT not what we asked for. They were nice about making a new sandwich, we just had to wait even longer.
When I ordered the chicharrones, I expected homemade chunks of fried meat/fat... but it was a big sheet of pork rind, like the kind you buy in a bag, with the toppings thrown on top. The menu said it came with lettuce, tomato, avocado, onions, sour cream, and Parmesan cheese. It did come with those toppings, but it was mostly shredded lettuce and pickled onions on top. The pickled onions were interesting, and in general the concept was not bad, and it tasted pretty good... you bad to break pieces of the pork rind as you ate it which was really messy.
The flan that they sold in plastic cups was not good at all. I saw some pictures of flan slices at this place... but that’s not how they were selling it the day we went. It had very little flavor. It’s really the first time we’ve ever had a bad flan!! The cake slices were OK, but nothing I would ever order again. Again, the cakes themselves lacked a lot flavor. We tried a strawberry shortcake style one, and one that was a caramel/coffee wet cake. However, the strawberry...
Read moreI took my wife to Juanito's Bakery because she loves the cakes from there. I think the cakes are not bad at all. On my first visit I decided to try the 'al pastor' tacos and my wife tried the 'suadero' tacos and to our surprise they were veryyyy good. There are other things I want to try from their menu. Hopefully I can go back some time soon since I live in Connecticut. The only downside to this place is that it is very small and it's a little uncomfortable...
