We have been coming to Boon Docks for years, which is why it's hard for me to write a bad review, but I was so disappointed by the service a few weeks ago that I felt the need to share in hopes that the owner can address with staff. We arrived at 6:15 on lobster night and were told we have a 30-40 min wait. We were fine with that. We took the buzzer and sat on the benches to wait. We were the only ones on the benches at that time. 45 minutes went by and we would see others seated that arrived after us. I inquired and the young hostess (actually there were 2 of them) tried to tell me that our buzzer went off already. It clearly did not. We never left the bench, so it did not go out of range. I was glancing at her sheet and didn't even see our party on there. I think she mixed up our number 6 with a number 9 buzzer. I was furious b/c it was my daughter's birthday and this is where she wanted to go. Instead of the girls reassuring me that we would be the next party of 4 she stated we would have another 20 minutes wait after waiting 45 min already. I was quite taken back that they didn't try to accommodate us at all. We went back to sit on the bench where we then saw 2 other groups of 4 get seated while we sat there. We got up and left. I told the hostesses this was unacceptable. She tried telling me they were there before us, which is completely bogus. Not sure I will be returning here, which is a shame because we do enjoy the ambience, but to be treated like this was unacceptable. It ruined my...
Read moreOverall, the experience and staff was beyond great, but the food was a bit of a let-down. TLDR: avoid the scallops, extremely small portion for the price. The tuna bites are awesome, coconut shrimp pretty good, fries were meh.
We arrived on a Saturday in the summer and expected a wait. We were greeted by a friendly hostess who informed us it’s a 45 minute wait. We waited along the beautiful marina exactly 45 minutes and went inside.
My wife ordered the coconut shrimp, I ordered the blackened scallops, and we shared the tuna bites. Service was fast and very good.
now on to the food. My wife loved the coconut shrimp. Decent sized portion of shrimp (10) cooked perfectly. The tuna bites were the star. Perfectly rare inside with a crunchy spicy exterior. If I ever do return i’d do two orders of those. Now onto the scallops….
At $37 dollars (more expensive than the lobster), I assumed the portion would be good. Boy was I wrong: when it arrived I looked at my wife in shock. Seven…. nickel sized scallops. They weren’t seared very well and the seasoning was gloopy. Even if they were cooked perfectly, $5 per scallop is highway robbery.
lastly the fries. I’ve had better at the local fairs. They were crinkle cut fries that seemed to be frozen from a bag. Not the best, but not terrible either.
All in all, I might return and get something else, but avoid the scallops and fries. great experience, mixed reviews...
Read moreMy friend always wanted to try the boondocks not realizing much about it. The scenery is beautiful so try to sit by the water. Expect almost an hour wait but there’s places to sit by the water or across the lot they have benches. You order and pay for your food at the counter and they bring it to the table. My friend ordered a lobster quesadilla and she said it was ok. My other friend ordered the cold fish platter and left hungry. It was one claw and half a body of a very tiny lobster, a few shrimp and french fries. My food wasn’t good at all. I ordered blackened grouper and it was an oil slick. I had to paper towel off as much of the oil as I could. The best part of the meal was the arugula and tomato salsa and the guacamole was very good and it was $17! . Idk if they broil food I should have asked . It gets confusing when you get to the window to order. The young girl taking our order barely spoke to us, she just stared like a zombie lol The entrees are 25+ and you don’t get much. There’s much better food in the area so I won’t be going back to the boondocks. It was worth a try and the setting is very...
