PRETTY FRESH, AND NOT TOO PRICEY (Rare qualities in fast food these days!), BUT... On the plus side, the selection of meats—sorry, “proteins”—that they serve up are surprisingly tasty for fast food, or any dining really. The steak is particularly bueno. And overall, we really enjoy their rubber-skinned burritos a lot. Tongue in cheek, that remark, and not backhanded in any way. Seriously, they're quite delicious, and clearly this eatery's jewel in the crown. A few quibbles though, ones that I've always had with this chain—some truly unforced errors that could easily be corrected—are as follows: Refried beans may be considered low rent by some people's standards, but they really should be offered among the beans selection, IMO, if only for the sake of variety. Besides, it's considered traditional among the gringos. Speaking of variety, their menu could stand to be expanded a bit as well. I mean, would it kill them to offer melted cheese on some of their items? And how about something different, like Mexican pizza, menudo, sopapillas, or...? Also, the crisp taco shells taste a little weird, frankly. Sorry, but I'll take the traditional corn tortilla any day over...whatever the hell those are. And on that note... Their in-house deep fried tortilla chips are pretty ordinary, as the biggest shocker of all. Very little flavor and too much salt, which is sad considering how easy it would be to get it right. Countless other Mexican food chains seem to pull it off with ease, but this one has somehow managed to find the least flavorful tortillas available to make their chips. If these are “organic” or whatever, I don't know, but you can have them. Excuse me, but do not mess with my chips! Finally, the amount of cheese allotted to your burrito is unforgivably skimpy, while you'll notice how generous they are with the (much cheaper) beans and rice. I know that's how they save money, but you shouldn't be forced to beg for more cheese on your food while the assembly line worker gives you a dirty look. No brainer. Minor complaints I suppose, but they add up. And this is why Cheapo-Lame will never be more than a B+ dining experience for us. Still, there are those excellent meats...I mean, proteins! Recommended nevertheless. For the record, this review of their newest store on the south end of town, near the new Costco, also applies to the Dana Drive property just up the freeway a piece; not only do they look alike inside and out, naturally (i.e, sterile and unwelcoming, like most fast food places these days), they're both equally consistent in the quality of food, service, etc., as you might expect. In other words, no cheese and subpar tortillas are a constant chain wide. And...
Read moreupdate. I’ve tried this chipotle location twice since writing first review. Both times have been 100% better. I believe they might actually be reading these reviews. Experience these times have been great. Portions are super improved, good amount of guac and sour cream: And they even said “does this look ok? At the end”
Staff smiled twice. No conversation but it’s loud in there and sometimes I don’t like conversation anyway.
All in all, if this service continues— I will be returning here frequently. Location is so convenient.
old review below
I usually love chipotle, eat it once a week usually, I order the same thing at all locations. I was so excited for this new location to open up right next to my house! How wonderful, I thought.
I now drive an extra 7 minutes to go to the normal location on hilltop. That should say enough.
I get about half the food in my burrito bowl than normal, with the most minimal amount of sour cream and guacamole I’ve ever seen. I offer the double chicken and steak. I pay double, I have even said, “I’m ok with paying more” and they DO charge me the double price… but the serving is the same as a normal Chipotle’s standard serving.
Normally my bowl touches the tin foil when they close the lid. At this location it barely gets to the tip of the cardboard.
Some team members are AMAZING and seem friendly and nice and they smile. But others always seem to be in a bad mood: and I get it. I have bad days too… and I hate to complain about it, but it brings me down. Is there a culture problem? A management problem? What’s going on.
I would love to update if things improve. Maybe a new location has some growing pains. But for now I’ll drive the short distance to the...
Read moreWe tried this location when it first opened and it was fantastic. Food was great and portion sizes were much better than the other Redding location. Today, I ordered for pickup and the food was a night and day difference. I ordered a burrito and paid extra for a double portion of steak as I like a pretty bare burrito, and this is what I received. I also ordered a watermelon limeade, and when my husband went to pick it up the person asked him what he wanted to drink instead of following the directions on the order, and gave him a pibb instead as I didn't repeat the exact order to him because the employees should have had it. My husband's burrito was also pretty pathetic looking as far meat goes. We are done spending money...
