Yes, it's a bar, a watering hole, a tavern, but it's the Showboat! This hidden gem truly buried in the heart of Redding CA is a one of a kind type of place. It's a sleepy joint. It has character, Loads of that. It's food? I should have given it 3 stars at least. There really is no obvious menu, at least not that I've seen. It has two pool tables, and during the club season you can watch the locals come and go who participate in the pool clubs. The bar itself is unique and huge! It almost looks like a W, it has a half loop that comes together in the middle, then another half loop. Lots of tables and seating, they have karaoke on Saturday nights if you like to try your voice and have a song you are fairly good at! I encourage participation, it's just good fun. And a kind audience. It's seldom packed, it has an (I've never seen one anywhere else) inside out smoking area with two doors that open into the actual interior. The room has lots of seating, tables, a TV, heating in winter, fans and AC in the summer, and one whole wall is an open wall to the outside with chain link fencing and a roll down security door to the outside. It's a really cozy, nice place for a quiet drink, perhaps a game of pool, or darts and a good visit. At one point, when I was younger I attended enough, and became familiar enough to acquire my name on the birthday board, and to be able to run a tab. Yes they still do that here, or did. Anyway, I highly recommend a visit, I think you will find an atmosphere that appeals to a broad audience, and just one of those places you can quickly become familiar...
Read moreThis is a nice, homey dive bar that attracts a lot of regulars. The days that I have been there the majority of the patrons were men in their 60's, talking to each about fishing, family, jobs and cars. Sharing the details of their lives with friendly faces.
The bar is as comfortable as a pair of old boots and kind of looks like that as well. There are 3 pool tables, darts and other assorted bar paraphernalia. They have a deep fryer or two in the back and can whip you up a pretty good selection of previously frozen snacks at reasonable prices. The waitress that I dealt with possesses that unique combination of crustyness and sweetness.
There is designated handicap parking right out front and two different ramps with rails. I doubt that I will become a regular but I would reccomend it for someone who is looking for that...
Read moreI liked the place and have some good moments there till yesterday when I decided to continue my birthday celebration there and sing some karaoke. It was all good and we were having a good time till they told me I could no longer keep signing the songs that I wanted (not in the best of manners) because the manager didn't want more heavy metal songs. I asked for one mor song as it was my birthday and they say that they didn't care it was, and they just removed me form the queue of singers. I guess they should tell you that you're allowed to sing only country songs and not to day there are an open karaoke. I'm sad about this situation cause I like the place but I don't appreciate...
