I thought about writing a review after my first visit to Deaux (pronounced "doh"...the X is silent), but decided to wait and go back to try again just to make sure the first time wasn't a fluke. Sure enough, definitely a fluke. Because the second time back (and now third and fourth times) have been even better now that I've tried all the different flavors! This is a brand new and locally owned donut/doughnut shop located in historic downtown Redlands, CA. It gives off Bottega Louie vibes in donut form (if that makes sense). The curb appeal alone of the newly renovated storefront gets you curious and excited for what's in store when you walk through the doors. Clean, chic, non-pretentious, and a warm family atmosphere greet you ("welcome to Deaux!") at the same time the waft of sweet and savory smells and roasted coffee hits your nostrils. It's pretty cool you can even watch the staff making the donuts from the huge windows that open up into the street. Like you're watching candy being made at Willy Wonka's!
Alright, on to the main attractions. Donuts. Coffee. And more donuts. There are many places nearby you can pop in and get your favorite dozen in the typical pink donut boxes. This isn't one of those places, and I implore you to keep coming back until you've tried all the flavors Deaux has to offer. You'll have to, they have seasonal/rotational flavors so the menu is never stagnant. The pastrami donut (yes, pastrami!) is hands down my favorite. Warm slightly crunchy crust, soft dough inside, tasty pastrami that's easy to chew and perfectly seasoned, a touch of Dijon mustard, cheese (I think?) and just enough pickled onions to balance the goodness in your mouth with each bite. I've been getting two, one for now and one for later (aka the car ride home). Close seconds are the orange blossom presented with an actual orange blossom on top and the lemon ricotta. What I enjoy about the sweet offerings is that it isn't overwhelmingly sweet, in fact the sweetness is perfectly understated. Again, this place is going for an elevated-donut-vibe and I've got to say the flavors really hit the mark.
The shop has a coffee menu featuring Arcade Coffee Roasters beans. I've never had coffee from Arcade Coffee Roasters but definitely going to try their Riverside, CA location now because it's pretty darn good. Not too acidic and doesn't leave that dry feeling in your mouth. How can you have an amazing donut without some amazing coffee to wash it down with? You can't. Order some coffee too, problem solved.
If you can't tell this is my first review so not going to bore you any longer, but I'll quickly say they have some pretty cool merch in the store too. I picked up a t-shirt and going back for their new fall inspired hoodies and beanies.
To wrap it up, it really seems like Deaux spent the right amount of time researching what people in the area wanted in a food establishment, built it, tested it, refined it, and delivered!!...and I have no doubt they will continue to iterate for the benefit of us all. Deaux is a special place, the owners Naz and Justin seem to be really special people, and I encourage you to try...

Read moreDeaux doughnuts are incredibly delicious! Got almost all of the varieties and enjoyed them all! Had the chocolate peanut butter, miso caramel banana, lemon ricotta, old fashioned, and orange blossom. Also got their specialty ones: Deaux Dots, pastrami, and bacon date goat cheese. These Artisanal doughnuts are crispy on the outside, moist and fluffy on the inside. No oily after taste! And best of all, not too sweet! Am a senior and always watchful of my sugar intake. Have been trying to stay away from doughnuts since they are usually very sweet and high in sugar. So glad Deaux doughnuts are perfect to my taste! In fact, have been on a Deaux doughnut diet this week. Had them for breakfast, lunch, snacks, and dinner! Never ate so much doughnuts ever! On the average, for day old doughnuts, I air-fried for 3 min to get back crunchiness on the outside while remaining moist and fluffy on the inside! As freshly delicious as newly cooked onesđ
Am not a pastrami fan but I quickly became one when I tasted the warm, newly cooked pastrami doughnut at the grand opening! Couldnât imagine a doughnut with meat filling and the pastrami was surprisingly much better than any pastrami sandwich Iâve had! Also brought home another piece and had it for lunch the following day. Air-fried for 5 min and remained as fresh and good as newly cooked one, deliciously fullfilling!
My other favorites are the amazingly addicting chocolate peanut butter, miso caramel banana, and the dots! Couldnât stop eating them!
Would love to buy more next time to share with friends. Love the classy light green box packaging. Makes it ideally presentable for gift giving.
The owners, Justin and Naz, clearly poured out a lot of love, time, and dedication in establishing Deaux. The staff were so welcoming, with their beautiful smiles and wonderful customer service! Love the simple yet classy decor of the shop.
Thank you Deaux for making gourmet doughnuts that everyone...
