Forgot to write this review, but probably better I did. I was super mad after my last takeout order (10/6/20).
Ordered Mother's Chicken, House Fried Rice, and their House App plate. Only the fried rice was anymore near good (because it was made fresh and tasted fresh).
For years, Chan's was my go-to in Redmond. I've had previous issues with Cindy's, so I ignore them. Yi's is hit and miss. Chan's is all I have to look forward too for Chinese usually.
The Mother's Chicken has always been my primary item I get. This time however, it tasted and looked like I ordered the day previous. It truly looked like it was in my fridge overnight and I just microwaved it to eat the next day. The breading was coming apart, the chicken was dry and way overcooked, and the sauce was bland except for its sugar content (no spice like it normally has). Disgusting. $14 wasted instantly.
The House Appetizer Plate was just meh. Seems like the cut back on what you got. Came with 5 fried shrimp, 1 egg roll, 5 paper chicken, and a mountain of BBQ Pork. Too bad the BBQ Pork was yesterday's too (dried up). Egg roll was much smaller then I remember. Shrimp were over-breaded and luke-warm. I normally not a fan of the paper chicken, but they were decent as they were the only thing at a proper temp. Waste of $13.
The House Fried Rice turned out to by the only thing in a $39 order that tasted good. Why? I wanted to try it because I knew it would have to be made fresh. Their Pork fried rice they give you on everything they can is dry and nasty, so I wanted to see what they had that could be better. It has BBQ Pork, Shrimp, chicken, and beef. The rice was cooked to perfection, and was light and fluffy. All the meats were well seasoned and tasty. Worth every penny. $15 and a mega portion.
Why couldn't everything else taste like the rice? Usually I have a great time with my Chan's orders. Now, I might come back for items I know need to be cooked to order. Might is a strong word here. The "might" is months away at this point. Too mad at myself over the entire thing. Goodbye Mother's Chicken. I will miss you. Chan's get a 2 star solely because the House fried rice saved my night.
RIP Chan's of...
Read moreOut of towners visiting a local relative that recommended Chans for lunch....I don't know where the negative reviews come from as our experience on Thursday was totally positive. I'm a noodle fan and got the House LoMein which was loaded with 4 different meats and lots of veggies....I asked for extra sprouts and onions and was not disappointed....noodles were perfectly done and the sauce needed nothing. The starter of hot/sour soup was some of the most flavorful and loaded I've experienced. Wife's Orange chicken was excellent as well, she said. The local always gets Szechuan chicken when she comes here and today was no different. Lunch portions are HUGE....larger than many dinner entrees at other establishments...I can only guess how big they are....server said dinner plates are "bigger, hold more"! Clean and neat with excellent food at a modest price...."It Don't Get Any Better"! We'll be back for sure when...
Read moreMy Dad spent quite a lot of money to make sure I had something special for Thanksgiving. So he bought me Chinese, which I'd been dying for. I've lived in Central Oregon for 20+ years and this is my first bad experience at Chan's. Safeway Chinese is better. The orange chicken tasted like General Tsao with orange rind pieces throw in which were tougher than shoe leather. The curry tasted good enough but the chicken seemed to be of a subpar quality. That was true of the paper chicken too. The BBQ pork was overdone and dry. Not even sauce could save it. I fed it to my dog. The shrimp and fried rice were the only highlight. I really wanted something special for Thanksgiving, and instead I've been crapping my brains out since last night, so it didn't even settle well. I expected more. I won't be back. Should have just got a couple burritos...
