Good views and somewhat open air in the lower restaurant (although it's an interior pier horseshoe view and El Torito and Maison Riz probably have better views because they face the beach and Palos Verdes to the South). The views up in the Crow's Nest / bar are a lot better. You can view 360 up there and I definitely suggest it for sunset.
I grew up going here on Sunday Funday bike rides for a fire chief. I moved out of state a few years ago but every time I come back to town, I've come to get one.
However, the last few times I've come, the atmosphere isn't as welcoming or fun. This most recent time we brought our daughter in a stroller. They wouldn't let us go upstairs with the stroller to the Crow's Nest / bar. That's fine, it's a bar anyway but they didn't have a high chair so we can leave the stroller downstairs.
They also didn't have any high chairs in the downstairs restaurant area. So, we were forced to leave our daughter in the stroller and eat in the upper part of the lower restaurant area away from the pretty ocean views.
They were out of the coconut shrimp appetizer Friday around noon which was the only thing we really came to get, along with our drinks. We got Ceviche instead. It wasn't very good but this is an Italian restaurant not a Mexican/Hispanic/Latinx/whatever seafood place so that's understandable.
I didn't watch the bartender mix our drinks but something was off with our fire chiefs. It's supposed to have a floater of 151 but it was definitely all mixed together. So it was hard to tell if the taste was off because he mixed the floater in or because he forgot the floater all together. Either way, it was missing its character flavor. One of our souvenir glasses was chipped too.
All in all it was a disappointing visit and I'm not sure we'll come back next time we come back to town. It's sad because we used to have so much fun here. Kinda felt cheated for 4 "fire chiefs" and a Ceviche...

Ordered the "famous" Tony's cheese garlic bread, oysters half shell, salmon and clam chowder, seafood combo all totaling around ~$66+. None are quite worth it. First, as I waited for a table, the greeting was terrible. In who seems to be the owner or manager (blonde Caucasian lady), there was a very unwelcome vibe I was given when taking my name for seating and whenever I asked the time to sit. Following that was the average to below average taste of the food. For a restaurant that seems to have been established since 1952 and a popular place to go, the food tasted like it never changed from the old days. From the oysters to the chowders and the main dish of a seafood combo, the recipes tasted as old as the establishment. There are much improvements needed throughout the menu. The clam chowder is one of the worst I ever hadm tastes like sludge. Although it comes with the main dish, the salad was such a poor excuse of a supplementary salad. I can make better with quality ingredients in 5 sec. Literally, it was just dead lettuce, croutons, and balsamic vinaigrette. Poor for even the most basic dinner salads. The cheese bread is nothing special. Same in being less than average. The oysters half shell is highly not recommended. Maybe because it is off-season but not having it on menu is more ideal. The final main dish of a seafood combo was nothing particular as well. I can make far better at home in a short time. Only reason for 2 stars vs 1 is because of the good service.
Otherwise, the parking is ample based on the lots at the pier. The interior was cool and gave a classic beach restaurant vibe. Situated in the heart of the pier, the views are amazing and the open windows brings in all the fresh...
Read moreI love going to Old Tony's with my brother Justin, who is visibly autistic. We always head to the gorgeous bar upstairs where he has his customary Diet Coke. The staff in the past have instantly understood that he's autistic and treat my brother with complete grace and dignity. But I was saddened last night that when we pulled in to celebrate Justin's 30th birthday and sat at a table upstairs, the server who met us, who was blonde, reacted to him with the kind of angry facial expression an old school kindergarten teacher confronted with a misbehaving child would don and loudly said, with a harsh tone, "HE won't be having any alcohol, will he?" Well, seeing as he is sober and of age and well-behaved and out to celebrate his 30th birthday, a beer would not have been out of the question, but no, he prefers Diet Coke. I'm bothered that he was subjected to a verbal indignity that he did not deserve to suffer on the night of his 30th birthday. Yet, I am also very grateful that we changed sections and were received by a new server with dark hair, who took absolutely WONDERFUL care of us as the staff pretty much always does. She was magnificently warm and closed us out and told us we were welcome anytime. Her kindness was touching. And yet, it sure felt like Blondie was continuing to shoot us dirty looks from across the room whole time! I just want her to know that whatever's going on in her heart is plain as day for the rest of us to see. Thank you to Tony's for always welcoming us, and to the staff who always make Justin feel so comfortable and keep the Diet...
