The food at Grain Cafe is delicious and the quality seems pretty high. They did a great job decorating the place. The staff are very attentive We have dined 5 times at the Grain Cafe, twice for breakfast, twice for lunch and once for dinner. The following reasons are why we choose to skip the GC and go elsewhere.
The portions are so small! I mean like laughable small. For the price it is totally not worth it . Th biggest offenders I have tried are the salads, served on a plate, who serves salad on a plate, an entree salad for 10 bucks plus should come in a bowl and be 3-4 times the size. The salads at GC are yummy but so small. The second was the Mexican dishes, the tiny-est scoop of beans and about a quarter portion of rice, but that's not the biggest offender of portion microness. Avocado: 3 slices, so thin, they totalled a quarter of a quarter if that. We are talking about 1/12th of a small avocado. I was shocked! I mean you are paying @4 dollars plus for 3 dollars worth of food.
As a long term plant based eater, I am well versed in caloric density and portion size of meals. It would take 40+ dollars for me to eat at GC and be full. I would need 3 entrees. Also if you are trying to convert people to vegan food. Why would you serve them so little where they leave feeling hungry???? Doesn't make sense.
Bottom line: astronomically overpriced for the...
Read moreYou can't come to LA and not have vegan food. Visited on a Monday afternoon with my sister. We were dining in and chose to sit inside at a booth. We were brought menus and water. The water tasted like filtered ocean water. We looked over the menu and asked our server, Fau, for suggestions. I decided to go with the veggie omelet and crispy potatoes as well as an apple, cucumber, spinach, and ginger juice. My sister ordered a wet burrito with half and half sauce as well as an orange, cucumber, ginger, and parsley juice. It wasn't busy and we got our juices about 5 minutes after ordering. We both enjoyed our juices. The ginger really shined through in my juice and my sister said the cucumber shined in hers. We were given a housemade hot sauce then the food came out and looked amazing. We got shared plates, split the food, and enjoyed every bite. The veggie omelet was actually a veggie scramble bc of the "egg" they use. Despite it not being an omelet, it was flavorful and the hot sauce paired well with it. The potatoes were not crispy but they were good. I mixed the hot sauce with the ketchup to dip my potatoes and it was a good pairing. The wet burrito was exactly what a wet burrito was supposed to be. Filled with plenty of veggies and flavors. The beans and rice were also flavorful. Everything was delicious and service was great. I definitely recommend...
Read moreWent for breakfast on Thanksgiving morning, nice that they were open.
Overall impression was decent setting, and good selection of Vegan food. Ordered the Huevos Con Chorizo, this was the good thing about the visit, very flavorful! Also had a large Americano coffee. While the food was good, the coffee was bland. Wanted to order an orange juice but they only have 16oz size, way too big to go with a meal.
Prices are high, around $22 for the single breakfast and coffee.
Couple things turned me off at this place, one was the blaring background music…very loud, not what I expected for an early breakfast spot. The second was the bathroom…worn out, fixtures and toilet seat were flopping loose and the whole bathroom was in need of a serious deep clean. The trash can was completely full, so arriving there right after they open, obvious they don’t clean the bathroom when done on the previous day.
Due to the loud music, high price and filthy bathroom can’t recommend.
Would I go there again…no Would I recommend...
