We had a frustrating experience yesterday. We had a large group and the friendly waitstaff found a way to fit us all in. Our food arrived about one hour later. Much of it was undercooked hamburgers and chicken (cooked only on the outside) while most of the French fries were stale. Several plates were sent back but most food was left on the plates. One friend offered to share half of his burger after having his cooked again but had no takers. Not sure how or why the kitchen would send out that much food undercooked, especially after that long of a wait. No apology was mentioned to anyone about the food.
When it came to the service, there were 3 or 4 foreign students waiting on us who were probably hired for the summer but have not been properly trained. We waited a long time for our drinks (many of which came with the food), the condiments had not been filled and no one ever checked on us while some of the staff were standing up front chatting.
Meanwhile, the veteran looking bar staff did not seem to be aware of how far behind our drink and meals were, nor could there have a manager on duty.
Lastly, when we tried to pay our checks we had to find our waiter after quite a long wait. He was very distraught about mixing up our checks and was trying to sort them out. In the end he agreed to let us tell him what we had ordered and he charged us based on that; we more or less recreated our checks. Several of us were tempted to just leave at on point. We also noted food left out in the cooking area while we were waiting to solve our checks.
I forgot to mention we had to refill our parking meter while this was happening. As I finish sharing this I realize that we traveled from Rehoboth Beach to Cherry Hill New Jersey in less time than it took to have a meal at Obieās. Not to mention by this time I am starting to feel better after a lot of intestinal discomfort.
We all felt that it wasnāt the waitstaffsā fault but they seemed ill equipped to do their job. However the kitchen could not have cared about the quality of what food they put out and management is non existent.
I would think that regulars and locals might come here for a cocktail and know Obieās shortcomings but tourists who are probably not ever going to be back wonāt know any better and wander in.
What a waste of a great location with a...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWhere do I begin. I normally don't discredit businesses and post anything negative but because it's my wife and family that's my red line. Me and my family waited for 20 minutes till they opened to eat here because me and my wife for previous years had a great experience here and we wanted to share that this time with our children. Well today was different my wife waited in line to be asked to be seated for well over 10 minutes after they opened well the guy just stood there starring at her and she had to ask were waiting to be seated. And we have a stroller. Well rudely the guy responded ok as to say like and what would you like me to do about it. So my wife responded in kind and confused like do we seat ourselves or what. He said no strollers allowed she said ok we will still liked to be seated. He then instructed someone else to seat us and just continued to sit at the hostess podium not moving or giving a dam about his job. I was with the baby and kids at the side door waiting to be seated cause we didn't want to carry the stroller up and through the restaurant.
We were seated but our overall experience was ruined and we ate and ended up spending 150 dollars here but probably will not be returning considering how we felt and she felt. Completely unwelcomed and mind you people travel here for vacation and expect to be treated with some dignity and respect.
Following this we heard he isn't the regular host so who is this guy? And why place him in a position to make your establishment look less of itself. I can't speak on how the other man felt who was told I can't hear you and to speak up with an attitude before my wife but my wife wasn't the only one mistreated this day.
Do better be better. I hope nobody gets treated like this on a regular. For the record he was wearing a white hat if that's helps any and it was on 08/20/2023 this happened at exactly...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreWe came to Obie's because we were searching for a restaurant in the Rehoboth area open late. We checked the website and viewed their menu. It looked good, but expensive. ($33 for 1lb of shrimp and over $70 for 1.25lb of snow crab legs.) Our gps led us right to the boardwalk hotel which didn't surprise me considering the pricing on the menu. What did surprise me was the restaurant actually being a dive across the street. Upon entering we weren't greeted and had to search out an employee who told us to seat ourselves. We did and were greeted by a waitress who gave us their "late night" menu of appetizers and a drink menu. We were disappointed by the limited selections because their website made no mention of it. I ordered a cucumber spritzer, chicken tenders and the cucumber tomato salad. My husband ordered a margarita and a lb of steamed shrimp. The drinks came promptly and my spritzer was just as expected. However, my husband's margarita looked like water. It was completely clear and he said it tasted like water and tequila. The food arrived in a timely manner and I enjoyed the chicken tenders and cucumber tomato salad even though it didn't have any tomatoes in it. The shrimp were bland, but edible. We won't be visiting here again. Please don't come here expecting a fine...
