I had been trying to get to Rehoboth, particularly to dine in one of Megan Kee’s restaurants, for a long while. Finally got to visit and immediately made a reservation. As expected, it was an absolutely a wonderful experience.
We started off with a beautiful bottle of Cremant de Bordeaux, which was perfect to cool us down a bit and a great way for us to relax after a long drive away from our busy lives.
I can’t begin to review our meal without first mentioning the bread. Basket of warm bread, bold and crusty outside, pillowy soft on the inside, served with a triangle of butter, seasoned with coarse sea salt. It was the creamiest, most perfect butter I’ve had the pleasure to eat. Right away, the thoughtfulness was apparent.
We chose the steak tartare for appetizer. The balance of the anchovy, caper and shallot, blended together perfectly under the quail yolk.
My girlfriend ordered the Canard. Medium rare duck breast, sweet potato purée and passion fruit gastrique, blended effortlessly with savory elements of the sautéed bok choy. The roasted pistachios added a texture dimension that made this one of the best duck breast dishes I’ve tasted.
I was jealous of her duck breast, for sure but, sitting before me was a steak frites (au poivre) that I would not regret. Going with the finely milled pepper in the cognac cream sauce was an interesting choice, another thoughtful part of the meal. The sauce was laying over one of the best prepared Delmonico steaks I’ve ever eaten. Time was taken to ensure that this steak was trimmed properly, making it an effortless cut. Perfectly medium rare and tender, each bite was seriously impressive. The shoestring fried potatoes were fresh and lightly kissed with a garlic flavor. Just perfect.
Our service only added to our entire stay at La Fable. Welcoming, warm, accommodating and knowledgeable of wines, menu items and pairings. The quaintly elegant restaurant never felt stuffy but we knew for sure that we were dining somewhere special. We cannot wait...
Read moreExcellent. The best restaurant in Rehoboth. Ate here before a trip to Philadelphia to eat at the "Parc" in Rittenhouse Square. Fable is much more than a brasserie compared to "Parc," which I would say is fairly typical. The halibut was excellent and the waiter made some great recommendations. I do feel as if the staff cater too much to boomer sensibilities. One does not have to explain that this and that are "very French," but I appreciate the reminder that I am in a French restaurant. The only issue which resulted in a lower service rating was that the wine by-the-glass, a wonderful, very minerale Sancerre from the terres blanches and caillottes of Chavignol, was not served at the table and unfortunately was served ice cold, with way too much condensation to be ~45-50 degrees. Serving wines like this ice cold deadens all of the character. It seems like the restaurant has a competent beverage director judging from the wine selection, but hopefully Fable can avoid these kinds of faux pas in the future to match their otherwise impeccable service. The Master Court of Sommeliers emphasizes service of wines by the glass at the table as well and I would encourage the staff at...
Read moreWhere to start with our wonderful experience at La Fable! We hosted a surprise wedding dinner for 18 people at La Fable and to say that the staff was excellent is an understatement. Even with the difficulty of planning the dinner from a different state and with such a large party, the manager, Ms. Tonia, was efficient and understanding and helped coordinate everything. On the day of the dinner, Ms. Jodi truly saved the day and deserves praise, as she went above and beyond to help with the decor and paid so much attention up to the tiniest detail. Kudo's to the florist, Kerry, who understood our theme and provided us with a gorgeous arrangement of flowers and bouquet. Ms. Tonia also had a custom buttercream cake that was ordered from a local bakery that was absolutely divine. The food was superb albeit the dishes did come out at different times but was understandable due to our large party. The staff at La Fable were a true blessing and the surprise wedding dinner was a success due to the staff. ...
