I'm in town visiting family, and they told me how good Beloved's was. I'm a sucker for a good bakery (I'm in the industry myself) and I was excited to go. My husband and I stopped by on a Wednesday morning for coffee and breakfast. Husband got the chicken fried steak and I got the Casino Breakfast. It was hard to not grab a freshly made pastry because they're right there in the glass display case as you move through the line. We ordered at the counter and got our coffee (iced spicy Mexican mochas, excellent and truly spicy), grabbed our order number and sat down at a table. The coffee arrived relatively quickly despite how busy the place was on a weekday morning, but we waited at least 25-30 minutes for our food. The food was fantastically prepared (be aware if you order the chicken fried steak, it is a true steak, not the usual pounded thin cube steak you'll get at other places; it also is served with brown gravy, not the traditional white cream gravy). The toast that comes with the Casino Breakfast was their thick sliced milk bread that tasted lovely and came with a side of their rotating homemade jam (strawberry, this time). The hash browns were so crisp and the bacon was some of the best I've had anywhere. I kept watching people in line ordering their rosemary and sea salt focaccia, which looked amazing. After our meal I hopped back in line to get a piece but they'd sold out at that point, so definitely grab it early or place an order to pick up! I did get an epi loaf and a pain suisse with chocolate, both were outstanding. I swung by a few days later before I left town because I just had to have another mocha and another pastry! I lucked out and they had their pecan pain suisse which included pecan praline pastry cream along with chocolate batons. Amazing. Definitely get it if they have them available! Beloved's,...

Really enjoy the pastries here—they’re excellent and the prices compete well with Perenn. You get a lot of value for what you pay.

That said, my biggest disappointment is the staff. The person who took my order didn’t feel welcoming at all. He wore sunglasses inside, acted like helping me was a chore, and seemed totally uninterested in customers. I watched him take other orders too, and it was the same—no energy, no friendliness, almost like he was just going through the motions.

I know this place is still new, and some of that is expected, but I’ve also noticed other reviews pointing out the same thing about the staff. If they don’t take these reviews seriously, it could hurt them in the long run. Personally, I’d much rather interact with someone who at least puts on a friendly face and makes me feel valued during my visit—and I’m sure many others would agree. Right now, it doesn’t feel like the customers are valued as much as they should be. Maybe I just caught them on a bad day, but based on other reviews, it seems to be a recurring issue.

This matters because Perenn, while more expensive, has consistently great customer service. That’s the big difference: here you get cheaper options, but the staff feels unfriendly; Perenn is pricier, but the service feels warm and professional.

If this place can figure out its customer service and match the quality of its pastries with a more welcoming staff, it has the potential to do really well. Will give a...

I had a great experience, can’t wait to come back! Food: I ordered a Beloveds Burger and it was so juicy and good I didn’t even need to load it up with ketchup. The sauce was great, shredded lettuce and a yellow tomato and of course beloveds famous brioche bun! Service: Friendly smiling faces. Order at the counter. Our order was brought to us promptly. We didn’t get any drinks this time but they have Olipops which are my all time favorite, and the hibiscus refresher looked yummy. Water and utensils are self serve. In addition to the café menu you can also pick up a variety of pastries and fresh bread. My favorite is the chocolate croissant, sourdough bread and the cinnamon raisin bread which makes the best French toast you’ll ever have. Atmosphere: Great location. Lots of parking. Outdoor and indoor dining. Beautiful and sleek, wood and cream tones. Comfortable chairs and benches. High ceilings and lots of windows. The bathrooms are clean and single stall for individual or family use. Everything in the café is very thoughtful.

EDIT: We came again and had another great experience. This time I got the butter and it came with wedge fries and secret sauce, and the Avocado Tartine. They also have green and go sandwiches. From the bakery I got a chocolate croissant and a chocolate chip cookie. They have so many bread and pasty options! I added more pics from today...

We were SO excited to come here and ordered a variety of things to try. Unfortunately all of it was very bland. Everything needed spices or garlic or even just salt. French Toast - quite literally one piece of bread for $16 (with some sauce and strawberries on it). Not very sweet which was nice. Eggs Benedict - eggs had pale yellow anemic yolks, sausage was gristly and tough. I could barely cut through it. No flavor. It was beautiful though! Avocado Tartine - not fresh sliced avo, it was a bland guacamole-esque puree on bread. Okonomiyaki - the best thing of the bunch! Flavorful, packed with chunky lions mane and scallions. I would order this again. Focaccia - again, bland. The rosemary didn’t come through, barely any salt flakes to be found. Texture was amazing though, very fluffy. Berry Cheese Danish - needed more cheese filling but was fresh and not too sweet. Service is counter only and friendly when you’re ordering. We waited around at the end to see if we could get someone’s attention to get a to-go bag, but all 10+ employees didn’t seem to see us. Everything *looked* amazing and it’s a nice ambiance. Like a beautiful person with no substance. For Reno this is 5 stars but we really need to start setting the bar higher. If you’re going to charge premium prices you need to make sure the food quality is at least good and the flavor is there.
