I was so excited when we stayed in Reno and I found a place with Sabrett hot dogs! I grew up eating them very often in Long Island and they've always been my favorite hot dog. So hard to find outside the NY area.
I was pretty disappointed unfortunately. I ordered 2 hot dogs with just mustard. They came with spicy brown mustard. Sabrett dogs have always been served with yellow mustard, never spicy brown. When I asked a worker for the yellow kind I was told they didn't even have it!Ridiculous. I don't like the spicy brown kind so I wiped off as much as I could with a bunch of napkins. And the bun was not like the ones I used to get. It needed to be steamed to make it soft, warm, and a little moist. The bun here was dry and room temperature, not really soft at all. And the hot dogs were much bigger than the ones in NY. Thicker and longer.
After I removed the mustard the dog finally tasted like a Sabrett, but by that time I was too upset to enjoy it much.
On the positive side, they had authentic blue and yellow Sabrett hot dog cart umbrellas outside, though they were folded closed when we were there, and nice decor inside. And it was clean. Service was quick.
Last fall we took a trip through Arizona. I found a place in the town of Sierra Vista near Tombstone that had Sabretts, called Stagers Hot Dogs. Their Sabretts were perfect!!! Exactly as I remembered them. I was in heaven! Sadly, that was not my experience at this place in Reno. Too bad I got my...
Read moreOur family wasn't to impressed... The food was WAY over seasoned.. I mean salty beyond belief... The prices seemed a bit high... And the staff... Well the man who was cooking when we visited was nice enough, the woman however.. not so great.. we had originally tried to pay our bill with a debit card, well for whatever reason the cards been acting up... No big deal we will just pay with cash. So I go and retrieve the cash(which there are five of us, and seeing as you pay for everything separately... It was a good size bill) well anyway I just happen to have the exact amount in my wallet. I come back up to the register to pay and I say here you go(whatever the dollar amount was) and she says and TWO pennies... I was thinking... REALLY??!! So I told her yes... And TWO pennies you will get every cent owed..🙄.. Needless to say.. after that.. THEN the food quality... We WONT be...
Read moreFantastic! I am from the midwest and have been to New York and Chicago (I've been everywhere man!) I gotta tell ya this place is doin it right! The dogs have the perfect snap to them when you take a bite. No sat in the water too long taste, not greasy like some places either! She makes her own chili sauce and let me tell ya it brought a smile to my face! I had the Capone, my son had the Cyclone and my husband who is not a hot dog fan got the Wonder Wheel burger. We shared an order of chili cheese fries, which normally I am not a fan of because they tend to be soggy. Not these though, thanks to the not soupy chili!!! Also had one of the best pieces of tiramisu i have ever put to my lips! We all concur that Coney Island Dogs and Burgers will be in our dine out rotation from here on out! If you have been wanting to try it and putting it off, GO!...
