Last night was just my 2nd time (ever) going into a card hobby shop and my 1st time ever going into one or our locally owned hobby stores. I’ve been collecting for 6-Months since I Re-started the card hobby, I just felt it was very important to share my experience and to take the time to write this review because (Shawn) the gentleman that helped, was one of most respectful helpful people I have ever had the pleasure to do business with he and his friend made me feel completely welcome, and allowed me to pick their brains for knowledge and they totally could have sold me a hobby box that was triple or more the price of my box, Yet they took the time to help me understand what and why I should pickup this certain box…
It is so great to know that there is still hope for humanity in the sale's world and if you don’t believe me please go meet these kind folks who were both very aware I am kind of new to the hobby again. Yet they treated me like a man and Helped me, even when I had a pretty stupid question, they made me feel I could ask it with no judgment it almost felt as if I had been coming in there years it was such a amazing experience I cannot say enough things about this store and the owner, In fact, it was such a wonderful experience. I will be returning next week when a product I had asked about arrives! Even My wife is excited to go check out their store after my first visit after I told her about my experience. 😎
Please take it from me don’t go to another store where you maybe taken advantage of this gentleman and his friend are both just very honest good wholesome folks who are willing to go above and beyond (WITHIN REASON) Of course to help you!
Thank you Shawn & Thank you Bill, Very much look forward to chatting with you gentleman when we all...
Read moreAs an avid baseball card collector most of us tend to have a little reservation going into a store new to us. Today was my 5th visit to this store but knew from my 1st visit that this truly is the only option in the Reno Sparks area. Yes there are a couple other shops 1 of which's owner is a really nice older gentleman but the other... Not even in the same league. My 1st visit to Home Team Sports I was a bit apprehensive due to past experiences with other shop owners but that feeling soon subsided as Sean after he got a feel for the type of person I am was awesome. He is a very straightforward, honest and respectful guy. We got to talking sports, cards and life and offered his high respect for my military past. His shop is top notch as is his knowledge of his trade. It is a COMPLETE and well laid out store with a plethora of all the different sports memorabilia. The prices are very fair and he is definitely not the type of owner looking to get over on someone that may be new to the hobby or unaware of what they have. I've observed him give and been on the receiving end of some great deals. I've also seen him offer and give more than fair offers when purchasing stuff from customers. He is very well liked by his clients and customers and that shows in the vibe and atmosphere when entering the store. Today was no different as I brought my fiancé in to meet him and was very personable with her. Great experience as always. Left with some good grabs at great prices again being very happy and satisfied with the transaction. A great shop with an equal great owner and trust me, to look elsewhere in our area would only be a waste of your time and gas. Thanks again Sean for always treating me and mine with respect and honest...
Read moreI've visited this store four times, and my first three experiences were wonderful. The employees were kind and willing to negotiate fair trade deals. However, my most recent visit was disappointing.
I drove all the way from Sacramento for an expensive card, and while the initial communication was great, things took a turn. I pulled up comps, we negotiated a fair price, and I emailed them about my arrival time and my intention to do a part trade, part cash deal.
When I arrived at 11 AM, I was informed that only the owner could handle trades and that he would be in at 2 PM. This meant I had to wait for three hours at Starbucks. When I returned, the owner said they weren't doing trades at that time, which rendered my wait pointless. Additionally, since I was relying on trade credit and didn’t bring more cash since they didn’t let me know before hand that they were not doing trades, I had to pay the rest on card which added an extra $25 in credit card fees to cover the full cost.
I was especially frustrated because I had communicated my plans clearly via email and was not informed that trades were unavailable. The cards I intended to trade were valued between $50 to $300, so they were not insignificant.
I'm sharing this feedback in hopes that the owner can improve communication with customers, especially those traveling long distances. It would have also been nice if the employee could have told me or knew that they were not doing trades that way I could’ve gone back home at 11 not at 2. I genuinely enjoyed this store before this experience, and I hope future visits can...
