Do not bother wasting your time to get an appointment at Dr Malinas Psychiatry office in Reno😡

We had our first appointment with Dr. Olisa at this office today.

Doctor never introduced himself and just started by saying he wanted to swab my son for a test. He never even explained what test until I looked to see it on his desk. I told him the Genesight Test has been completed already sir. 😩

This doctor refused to even look at all the doctor reports I brought to share about my son's medical history.😡

3.. When I asked the doctor about if he read all the pages I filled online for their office, he said no I didn't and asked are you trying to tell me how to do my job??🤐

Dr Olisa refused to speak to our adult son. When I asked him to please ask my son the questions, he stated I am asking you since I see your son's non verbal.. I told him sorry sir he is very verbal. He didn't believe me at all.🤔

Dr wanted to push meds right away before even reading over the Genesight test I provided to him. I requested a copy of the side effects for the med he suggested. His response was I don't have that all. I told him sorry I am not agreeing to any meds without knowing the side effects. Dr said I can't do anything for you then🤬

The doctor recommended sending our son out of home placement if he has neuro issues. Are you serious you suggest one med and tell me to send him away from our home? That's the only suggestion? He stated that he had three other adults with autism that he suggested to parents and they listened. I told him that is not an option and would appreciate providing us a copy of his recommendation. He stated I can't do that at all since I need more information on your son. My response is go ahead and ask my son what you need. He refused to do that yet again. He even asked me so are you even married? What does your husband do for a living? I responded in surprise asking how is that relevant to our son. His response was I need to know all this to determine your son's diagnosis? So I told him he was an entrepreneur. The doctor then says I'm done since you're being uncooperative and told me to leave his office My response was thank you for wasting our time and have a good day 🤬🤬🤬

My rating for Philip Malinas MD & Associates is primarily due to my experiences with Okechukwu Olisa who practices there. My rating would be 1 star had I not had a more positive experience with a different practitioner at the location.

When Mr. Olisa was my practitioner he told me he prescribed one medication but prescribed a different one, leaving me to figure out what the pharmacy actually had for me. One time when I called the pharmacy, they told me he called and was incredibly rude to them while asking about my medication due to his misinformation.

Mr. Olisa used two separate phone lines without telling me so I received phone calls from an unknown number when he would try to call me back; he left no voice mails indicating that the caller was him.

During appointments Dr. Olisa would seem uninterested and rush me to finish them quickly, with 5 minutes being rather long. At some of these appointments I could not receive my medication within the 2 week interval while even working with the pharmacy and insurance. He still charged me for those 2-minute appointments, however, even though no progress was made on my prescription and he demonstrated zero effort until I suggested I call the front office.

The last straw was when Mr. Olisa supported his decision in this medication with the hold by saying that he was protecting me by prescribing me a 1/day pill instead of 2/day since people might judge me for taking pills at work; he had no right to make that unprofessional statement, and I mentioned beforehand that it was of no concern to me.

Mr. Okechukwu Olisa is unprofessional, rude, and a bit unsavory when it comes to charging for his (lack of) service. If you need to go to Philip Malinas MD & Associates since they are the only office taking UnitedHealthCare Insurance in Reno, I recommend you see anyone OTHER...

DO NOT even try! They WILL bill you for things that are not your fault. They are rude and uncooperative. I tried to schedule with them a few months ago.

They scheduled me for a tele-conference about a month out from when I called. They never gave directions on how it would work! I called them a week beforehand to ask how I would access the virtual call, and whoever I spoke to told me I would get the link the day before the appointment. Never got it.

5 minutes after my scheduled appointment time, I called the office because I was confused. No answer. I called later. They said I missed the appointment and I needed to pay $75 for a no-show. I explained my situation to the person on the phone, and they told me they had sent out an email link for the appointment a couple WEEKS before the actual appointment. Note that this is different from the previous person who told me I would get the link the day BEFORE the appointment!

I check my email. Spam folders. Every folder. Nothing. I'm not blaming anyone here--sometimes emails don't arrive. It happens. However... The person on the phone starts getting irritated with me saying "[they] definitely sent the email" and basically it's my problem for not getting it. They tell me to leave a message for the manager, Monica. I left two very detailed messages.

The manager never called back when she got back from vacation like she was supposed to. Instead, I get a bill for $75. I call again. They say there's nothing they can do, I have to talk to the manager, who again conveniently is not there. Another message left. I'm going to keep trying.
