My second time here. I got my first taste of the Beaver a year ago, when I learned that those dry aged burgers are so good that they make my brain glitch like Neo learning of the matrix.
So I found myself back in Reno this October, and made a point to return. As I keep very early morning hours in a time zone that's two hours ahead of Pacific, I wake up crazy early when I'm in the Pacific time zone.
So four o'clock in the morning on a Monday it was as this place is open 24/7.
Sadly, I found myself encountering their once a month deep cleaning, so I couldn't get food right away. The bartender let me in, gave me one of their fabulous Bloody B..(even we won't go that far) with its pepper infused vodka and cornucopia of garnishes. I played a little bit of poker at the bar, then wandered across the street to the Atlantis for a couple hours to squander away my child's inheritance and pass the time until the cleaning was done.
I came back in about nine in the morning, and they had food. I got a slightly different variation of hamburger this time, but again with the dry aged patty with some garlic tots on the side. As with the first encounter, this thing is destination level good.
Like I would take a trip back to Reno exclusively to eat here again. If I had the money, I would book a flight, uber to the Beaver, eat my fill, uber back to the airport, and fly home with no interest in any other activities whatsoever.
Next time I visit, and oh yes, I will find a way, I aim to try one of their steaks along with one of their breakfast offerings.
Thanks again for such a great atmosphere and...
Read moreHad the worst experience here. I was with a group of maybe 10 people. There was no plan, maybe just grab some drinks. I was one of the first to arrive and asked if we could have a table instead of everyone sitting at the bar. It was mostly empty besides us and one other table of men. Everyone arrives and the waitress doesn’t come to take our order. We waited for a while, she was busy talking to the other table and hanging out with them. After what must’ve been 45 mins she finally turns around so we can get her attention and ask her if we can order. No issues and everything is fine until it’s time for the checks. We were just going to put it on one bill and everyone Venmo whoever put it on their card, so we didn’t ask for separate bills. The waitress came out angry, and started to be very rude to me and tell me that I need to tell wait staff in advance that checks needed to be split, but she wanted to be nice so she did it for us. Not only did we not want the checks split, but she specifically was being nasty and talking to me. This wasn’t my event. I wasn’t even going to be the person putting my card down. I don’t know why she had a vendetta against me but I have never been treated so rudely by anyone in my life. It caught the attention of other people at the table who questioned what was happening, and i genuinely didn’t know. We were all pleasant, didn’t ask for much, and everyone else tipped well (I personally refused to tip after that encounter, though everyone else tipped). The food was fine but not at all worth the attitude, would not recommend...
Read moreFood is decent here, but the service leaves a little to be desired. We sat for an hour and 15 minutes tonight as a party of 7, being told we were 15-20 minutes from being seated three different times throughout the wait.
Finally, we asked a group of three sitting at a table for 12 if they would move to a 4 person hightop so we could take the table. They agreed and asked their waitress if it was OK, she promptly ignored all of us regarding the request. After another 10 minutes, we asked again and I told her our party of 7 had been waiting over an hour for a table. She went and told the host i was being rude and everyone again ignored our request. It wasn't until I finally flagged down the manager and explained the situation to him that anything was done.
He informed me that the waitress with the curly weave had told him I was being rude. I explained that we had already done 3/4 of their job and all they had to do was confirm participation in the solution we had brokered for them in order to make all their customers happy. Reluctantly, he agreed.
We then sat for another half hour waiting to order food. Clearly as an act of protest by the servers in retaliation for trying to help them manage their restaurant somewhat efficiently. We finally got our orders in and the food was good. Hopefully they didn't spit in it.
The staff here is clearly very new to running a restaurant. If you're patient with them and help guide them towards reasonable decisions a normal, fully-functioning adult would make, you can actually a...
