It doesn't matter how delicious your food is if you don't treat all your customers equally and with respect. A girlfriend and I went to this is New Zen Sushi after finding out Freddy's will not be serving Sushi until about 1pm. My friend arrived a few minutes prior to me and said she wasn't sure if we should stay because the lady seemed really rude for no reason. She said the waitress asked her if she was going to eat something and she told her yes that's why I came into the restaurant. When I arrived I sat down and greeted my friend. We begin to look at the menu and I looked at the cook, the waitress, and another lady and they were all chatting amongst themselves and looking at our table. There was no one else in the restaurant besides another full table family across the room. The waitress came over and asked if we had any questions. I told her no I don't have any questions, but I would like to order two spider rolls and my friend would like to order ... She looked over to my friend and ask her if she called this establishment yesterday? My friend answered her know this is my first time here. She said okay in a voice as if she didn't believe it. I asked her what the problem was because she seems to be a bit rude considering that she doesn't know what her caller looked like. Based on a previous experience she had on the phone the day before, this should have nothing to do with two brand new customers that just walked into your restaurant. I asked her if everything was okay and she answered well I don't know is it? And then the waitress said well we have the right to refuse service to anyone and I said that's fine you're well within your rights but we've done nothing to you up to this point for you to refuse service to us. So at this point I noticed that there is an entire Asian family at a full table across the room from us eating peacefully. My perspective on this restaurant is that they are racist and they do not like to serve black people. I have sifted through all 100 Plus reviews and majority of them are not black people. That's not appropriate to treat people that way especially if you have absolutely no reason to associate them with your previous experience the day before. This restaurant is unprofessional and suspect. If I could give them zero Stars they would definitely have. I honestly hope that something really bad happens to this restaurant and it gets closed down for treating the right person...
Read moreごちそうさまでした。 I found New Zen Japanese Restaurant by accident, as I was looking for a place to buy some sushi for an allergy test on a Sunday evening. After doing a Google search, it was the only sushi restaurant open in the area. When I got to the restaurant, I was looking to just pick up a few different kinds of sushi. I was a bit hesitant to order because it was about 6:30pm and there was only one couple in the restaurant. I ordered some カキフライ(deep fried panko coated oysters), 帆立 (scallop), and マグロ (tuna) to go. But after looking over the menu, I decided to take a chance on their tonkatsu (pork cutlet). More on tonkatsu later. After receiving and paying for my order, I went home and put the sushi in the refrigerator and opened the tonkatsu. The first thing I noticed was that the portion size was quite generous. I took my first bite and all my expectations were exceeded. The tonkatsu was tender and juicy, the way Japanese tonkatsu should be. The カキフライwas also cooked perfectly. It was crispy on the outside and the inside just melted in your mouth. Writing about it is making my mouth water. With the vast Japanese community in the Seattle area, you would expect to find numerous authentic Japanese restaurants, but unfortunately that is not the case. If you visit the other self-described “authentic” Japanese restaurants, you’ll quickly notice that the difference in the rice. These restaurants don’t even equal the quality of Japanese convenience store food (which is actually pretty darn good). In Japanese, “katsu” (勝つ) means “to win.” Prior to taking a big test or a competition, eating a “katsu” dish helps instill confidence to students that they will succeed in their endeavor. Food is like a journey. It begins with a love for cooking and a passion for creating delicious food. I appreciate the fact that New Zen Japanese Restaurant takes great pride in making all the dishes they serve. I’m already looking forward to having my next...
