We lived in Renton for over 10 years and were so excited when Jackie and his family came and opened up Sushi Cafe. We tried it and immediately were hooked. Jackie's training both in Japan and in Seattle shows through his creations and after eating sushi all over WA, the US, and around the world, we can honestly say they make some of the very best sushi we've ever had. The quality of the ingredients and the cuts of the fish are immaculate. The flavors are absolutely on point. And while it may not be as flashy as some spots around town, we don't eat for flash, we eat for flavor and texture. Jackie and his family nail it, both at the sushi bar and in the kitchen. They have now become a "known" spot so it's busy and sometimes tough to get a seat but it's worth the wait. Go on a weeknight or for lunch if you can. So happy to have spent yet another birthday with Jackie and his children, who are the faces you will see most behind the sushi bar, now. The family definitely makes the experience even more special for us. Wonderful watching the kids grow up, get married and have kids of their own. They are a whole family of lovely humans with a wonderful restaurant....
Read moreWell I had come here with my girlfriend hoping that we had found a great local sushi place. However, we will absolutely not be coming back here. We had crab wontons, lumpia, and seaweed salad for appetizers. Then my girlfriend ordered a California roll and Vegas roll. I got the Hella Hot and Phoenix rolls. Everything looked great upon arriving to the table. The Hella Hot roll was packed loosely and almost every piece fell apart which was disappointing. The next disappointment was our waitress disappeared which is tough to do in such a small restaurant and with only one other party of two. I waited over 10 minutes before I had to waive down someone who wasn't waiting on us to ask for water. Turns out she was sitting behind the counter talking to one of the cooks. I don't think it's asking too much to be checked on after food is brought to the table.
Later that night my girlfriend ending up getting food poisoning. My stomach felt fine but the only thing we didn't share was the California roll.
Don't get your hopes up with this place. Just another questionable...
Read moreJan. 24, 2019 Our first in-restaurant visit to Sushi Cafe, Renton. (Last year my son-in-law ordered take out). The service was excellent and our waitress made sure we had a table as soon as one was available. We appreciated that as we had 2 children and 3 adults. All of the food was very fresh and beautifully prepared. So why no 5 star review? Even though the staff knew we had food allergies (gluten, dairy (no cow milk), and food coloring) we were charged a $10.00 "cake fee" for bringing a birthday cake. It was my son-in-law's birthday. Bringing our own gluten free, dairy free, food coloring/additive free cake was the only way we could all enjoy cake/candle/song/dessert. Our bill, including our $20 tip, came to $113.23. The 3 of us had driven from Kent, Bellevue and Issaquah. Celebrating many, many, birthdays all over the world, we have never been charged a "cake fee." Please reconsider this fee! It is not posted on the menu or your website. It will definitely deter us from celebrating birthdays at Sushi Cafe in the future, and possibly other...
