The server was rude to me from the start and the manager who I reported the issue to told me she would hang up in my face if I mentioned race. She flat out yelled at me at the top of her lungs that I was not allowed to speak about my race.
The food took too long to come. The server took too long to take my order. When I tried to order at the bar, thinking she was maybe overwhelmed or busy, she snapped at me. When I asked questions about the menu at which she responded, "Well, ain't that what it says?"
When I asked for forks, to eat the cake that had been cut, she stated, "Well, yall gone have to wait and I don't know if I got enough forks for all them people." 15 minutes later, another guest found a fork for him and I. It was too loud to even have a conversation with the people in my party.
When it was time to clean up the party decorations, I asked for the server to repeat the instructions. She responded, "I'm not talking to you, I'm talking to her." When I called to speak to a manager about my experience, I was cut off and yelled at. She asked me, "Well, if your service was so bad, why did you wait to report it?"
I explained I was very upset about the service and needed time to calm down before I spoke. I kept my composure even though the server was so rude. I then explained, "As a black woman,"
The manager then said, "Yeah, I'm going to stop you right there because you don't know who you are talking to. We are not going to make this a race thing. We are not going to talk about race. You are not ALLOWED TO SPEAK ABOUT RACE! IF YOU BRING UP RACE AGAIN, I WILL END THIS CONVERSATION! YOU CANNOT TALK ABOUT RACE! I know your type. If Felicia was white, you would have said she was a racist. You don't have a right to speak about how she looks or her race or yours. I don't want to TALK ABOUT RACE! I RUN A RESTAURANT, NOT A RACE BUSINESS! I WILL HANG UP ON YOU IF YOU BRING UP RACE AGAIN!"
I tried to get a word in, and she would not allow me. She was yelling at the top of her lungs. When she finally let me get a word in, I stated, "I was going to say, as a black woman, I understand how anxiety can translate into an attitude. I wanted time to discern between the two. But after thinking about it, she was rude to me for no reason. She was nasty for no reason." I also explained that the manager seemed very controlling and unacceptable as well. I went onto say it was very clear that Bocce is an establishment that cultivates, allows, and possibly enjoys a culture of abuse. She yelled at me some more and hung...
Read moreI stopped by Bocces with my husband for a drink and dinner after a long day working. We were deciding between Bocces and another place and settled on Bocces. We ordered 2 margaritas and then ordered a chicken quesadilla and fried chicken dinner. We had just placed the order and took a sip of the drink and it was terrible. The drink was watered down, and we decided to catch the waitress and cancel our food and just go to the other place. My husband went to the waitress right away and instead of going to the kitchen she went to the manager and after talking with her and then us for SEVERAL minutes they came and said the food was done and we have to pay for it to go. I offered to pay for the terrible drinks since they came to my table and i took a sip of it but I told him that we should not have to pay for the food and I didn’t want my food to go. They discussed some more while I waited patiently and eventually we started to leave. At that point the security guard chased us down like we were running out on the tab and I did not give him a hard time because he was just doing his job. So now my husband and the manager are arguing about this at the front door while other patrons are coming in and he threatened to call the police if we didn’t pay. I told him to call the police if he thinks he’s right. We waited for the police and told them our side of the story which 1 officer agreed this was ridiculous but they were just doing their job also. I was then told by another officer that we have to pay for the food and I asked him what happens if we dont and was told I would be arrested for theft of services. At this point I decided to just pay but this is far from over. The manager lied and told the police we waited to cancel until the food was done...NO he waited to tell the cook to stop preparing the meal until it was done. We informed the waitress within minutes to cancel the food and we will pay for the drinks. Why was I ordered to pay for food I no longer wanted and forced to take the food to go. By the way we did not take the food when we paid on principle even though it was bagged up at the desk. This was the WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE EVER and I do not recommend anyone ever attend this place. Please check out the reviews on Yelp, they are very similar to...
Read moreI ve been going to Bocces on an off since it s inception. It s survived ALOT. From the smoking ban.....to this latest ...being the Covid. Still chugging along. With reason. The food is still very very good. And the service excellent. As I have always experienced. Those who patronize now are too young to know it was named Bocce s after the Bocce ball courts that used to b inside. Now there are booths there. The ONLY problem during the visit? Serving our dinners in Styrofoam Togo containers. I had never seen anything like this in my life. Tacky to the extreme. When I inquired? The waitress was quick to say this had been policy since the beginning of Covid. She was JUST as quick to offer to bring stoneware plates and silver if we r really bothered by the foam containers. We did not. I was hungry and my Bacon-cheesburger whispered sweet nothings to me from the horrid container. she didn't look irritated to offer. THAT is good service. Which is what we got the whole time we were there. I d go so far as to say A++ service. That s why they still exist when all around them (except Red Lobster) have failed. That? And the food. My dining partner had a turkey burger. She said it was fantastic. Ate every bite. It s SO easy to destroy a burger made of poultry. Dry it out. Make it tasteless. If she says it was fantastic? She s. A Chef. Then it was fantastic.. I carry a degree in Culinary arts but don't work in the kitchen.. Having been in the buisness myself for 20+ years? I have a critical eye for certain. The foam containers scraped my nerves. But? The food? The service. The laid back sports bar atmosphere? I'd like to say slightly upscale...but? Again..Styrofoam. yet? I ll b back again. I am sorry I waited out the bad part of Covid to go back. Thank God their regulars didn't. Or they d b gone like too many others. Glad u made it out the other side Bocce...
