Delicious Taiwanese food! I've eaten here before but never really reviewed them, but my family and I are big fans of their food and the bakery items. I ordered: Dark Broth Beef Noodle Soup, Shredded Dried Tofu with Pork, Crispy Slices Fish with Garlic Sauce, Small Juicy Dumplings (pork xiaolongbao), and Pork, Shrimp, and Leek Boiled Dumplings. Everything was flavorful and the perfect balance of sweet and/or savory. They did make a mistake and only give me 11 dumplings when it was supposed to be 12, but once I addressed this with the waitress she promptly had the kitchen staff make more for me and even gave us an extra dumpling. The soup dumplings were super juicy and drool worthy. The beef noodle soup honestly transported me back to my time in Taiwan and I could've drank that broth all day long, it was that good. The fish was surprisingly crispy even though it had a sweet sauce on it but paired really well with all our dishes. From the bakery, I highly recommend their roll cakes! I've tried vanilla and strawberry and it's a total steal for $9!! I've compared MANY places and this restaurant's roll cake is the best deal and well made. It's super soft and fluffy and the whipped cream tastes fresh without an aftertaste. I also really like their pork & cabbage buns, I highly highly recommend them. They give like 9 for either $11-15, I can remember the exact cost but it's totally worth the price. I've gotten it almost every week. Their green onion flower buns are also super good, same price as the pork & cabbage bun but just a different taste. I've gotten this multiple times as well. Seasonally, they make sticky rice dumplings, Taiwanese style and red bean, I've only gotten the Taiwanese style and it's super good! It's a little pricey for the small-medium size, so I wish they'd make it larger for the price, but again this is a seasonal item so you can't get it all the time, so when it is there, get some!! Overall, I'm definitely coming back to Jeng Chi in the future with friends and family for more...
Read moreOut of all the choices of restaurants in the surrounding area, this definitely had to be the worst one. I had high expectations for this restaurant based on reviews, I now highly suspect the property manager either pays to have good things written about this establishment, or simply removes negative comments. I'm not sure what the hype is all about but walking in, I really was convinced this food was gonna be amazing. Egg drop soup was mild at best. Not a big deal, it was easy to look past. Next my in laws and I ordered the soup dumplings. Maybe I'm not a follower of the crowd, but I have DEFINITELY had better dumplings and these were not "the best dumplings I've ever had" like other customers that have been here have claimed. That's okay too. I then ordered the noodle plate with ground beef sauce. Maybe I'm not accustomed to "authentic Chinese cuisine" but the noodles were stiff and the sauce was just not amazing by any standards. Disappointed again. I also ordered a side of steamed white rice, and there were uncooked, hard grains of rice in my bowl. My wife ordered fried fish with garlic sauce, my father in law ordered chicken fried rice, and my mother in law got shrimp with snow peas. I tried every dish and every single one was mediocre. So. Not the best meal, but I'd still be open to give the restaurant another chance and return as a customer. HOWEVER. At the end of the meal our waitress, who from the beginning, came off as extremely pushy, rude and inconvenienced stood over my father in law as he signed the check and VERY SPECIFICALLY said TWICE "make sure you give me a tip" and would not walk away until he did so. Let me make it clear we still tipped properly, but in what way is that EVER acceptable. I will never return to this restaurant based off this one experience. I was really looking forward to a good meal. Absolute waste of time. Cut your losses, and save your time hoping to get an "authentic" Chinese dish in the middle of...
Read moreHaven’t been to Jeng Chi in close to a decade and decided to bring my family here for Mother’s day. Ordered soup dumplings and most of them barely had any soup in them, it seemed to have all leaked out during the steaming process. We ordered the combination FRIED noodles but were given BOILED noodles. Nothing about it was remotely close to stir-fried, and it was as bland as it looked. Am I misunderstanding something? Who in the right mind named this dish “FRIED NOODLES”? I demand to know where the FIRE element came from or it utterly implied the fire that was used to boil the water? I’ve been living on this earth for several decades and had hundreds of stir fried noodles if not thousands, I wouldn’t call myself a noodle connoisseur but I think I could tell what stir fried noodles should taste and look like. For example, the chicken should not be as pale as my ghostly white-unexposed to sun since the pandemic-office worker legs, and there was absolutely no seasoning besides maybe a pinch of salt. There was so much more I wanted to say because I was just so baffled by what I had eaten today and what it wad supposed to be.
Our server rarely came by and acted annoyed when I asked for things, like an extra plate because she only gave us four for five people or a fork because I dropped mine. After waited a long time for our sever to come by, I finally caught her attention and asked for the check, to which she said she could take care of it at the table right then. I looked down to grab my wallet which took less than two seconds and she was gone when I looked up with my card in hand. I was so baffled as to why she decided to walk away mid-task to take orders at another table. Was it because we had finished eating and were on our way out, so any additional service was deemed unnecessary?
After the meal, I finally realized why I hadn’t come back in so long and this time...
