I have to say, I've always had a hard time finding something I wanted to eat at Pizza Luce, but my family usually likes it. This time, we had a very late dinner after taking care of other stuff after work ran late.
We were seated at a table next to a big open window on something resembling a 3 season porch with the outdoor seating on one side & the bar on the other side. It was loud, warm and humid.
To make matters worse, there was a table full of people across the screen window from us who were excessively loud. Probably because I'd already had such a full day, I was having trouble with that volume not to mention the fresh 494 air, so they sat us on the other side of the bar which was predictably noisy, but a vast improvement. So thank you for that...
I left the table briefly & gave my husband the order in the meantime. I asked for the spaghetti -hold the meatballs. My husband noticed the vegan meatballs & ordered those instead, since I'm a vegetarian. His intentions were good, but the reason I don't order meatballs is that I've never liked them. I'll eat them to be polite if I'm at someone's house, though.
This was fine as he said he would eat them. I picked them out for him, but he only ate one. He said he thought they were real meat.
There wasn't very much pasta in the dish and without the meatballs, it was swimming around in sauce. I ate the rest of the pasta & ate some sauce on the garlic bread. I noticed the sauce was thick & that there was parmesan cheese on top. Maybe it was vegan cheese? I only mention this in case the reader is lactose intolerant or vegan, they might want to check with the server to make sure there isn't cream & cheese on the spaghetti. There also seemed to be something that tasted like meat in the sauce here & there.
I will say, the wait staff was great. They were very busy that evening and managed to get to us regardless.
One thing I don't get about most restaurants that serve alcohol is why there is only one drinks menu. If you go with a group of people, how long does it take for everyone to see the menu? Just a thought.
I have to say, Pizza Lucé does have a pretty long list of beer, wine, mixed drinks, mocktails, etc. so meet up with friends there for a drink. Maybe you could all take pics of the drinks menu so you can get those...

Read morePizza quality is typically pretty consistent from one pizza luce location to the next, so I ultimately do like to order from Pizza Luce if I'm with people that are willing to pay the extra premium to order it. However, their delivery and pickup timing systems have seemingly always been their downfall to being a 5 star operation, in my opinion. With that being said, it's the best pizza joint for pizza quality that I've found on the south side of the Minneapolis Metropolitan area.
I've only actually sat down and enjoyed pizza luce inside their restaurants, maybe once or twice, and I remember the service being ok, nothing spectacular, just ok. The atmosphere is a nice, higher end, pizza restaurant. It's clear they have put in the effort to curate an overall experience for their patrons and it seems to draw a classier crowd of patrons, I never really see any riff raff at Pizza Luce, which may be due to the higher than average price point for their pizzas. This last visit was just for pickup, though.
My wife ordered a pizza and a pretzel and the tracker said it would be ready within like 20 to 30 minutes, so we hopped in the car shortly after ordering, stopped by another store on the way to pickup some beverages, and then made our way here slowly. We knew we'd be a bit early, so we took our time getting here. Upon arrival at around 6 pm on a Friday, we discovered the wait would actually be far longer, like another 20 to 30 minutes. Not ideal, but what do you do. Just wish those timers were actually updated to account for this properly ahead of time.. especially since their parking lot is tiny and there isn't really anywhere to loiter while waiting.
I'll probably still be back to Pizza Luce eventually, but it's small things like this that deter me from coming back...
